Maison Chalendeix welcomes you for a quiet, soothing, simple and authentic stay. It is a magical place, in the heart of a reserved environment, without noise, visual or light pollution. You can relax there, marveling at the passage of wild deer, mischievous foxes, majestic buzzards and laughing owls. It is 5 km from Eymoutiers, a charming medieval village with all shops and services. The space Maison Chalendeix is located in the heart of Limousin, in the Regional Nature Park, at the crossroads of Haute-Vienne, Creuse and Corrèze, on the first slopes of the Millevaches Plateau, known for its beautiful hiking trails. It is 10 minutes from the stunning Lake Vassivière, 5 minutes from Eymoutiers, a charming little medieval town on the Chemin de Compostelle, where you will find all amenities, 10 minutes from Beaumont-du-Lac, and 20 minutes from Peyrat-le-Château. Our region is gentle, peaceful, on a human scale, and modest despite its countless treasures and rich history. We will be delighted to share with you our experiences, our knowledge of the historical and cultural heritage and the local lifestyle options, our enthusiasm for living in this beautiful region, and to let you discover our little secrets! We live there and will be able to answer any questions you may have. Maison Chalendeix is a former 19th-century farmhouse that was renovated with passion and care by Marc, a lover of beautiful stonework and a former building tradesman, with the help of local craftspeople. He was committed to creating a connection between the interior and the exterior. Each large room, through large openings, thus has a painting: you will be in the landscape! Gaëlle, a former archaeologist, has created comfortable spaces with understated and elegant decor, punctuated by carefully selected pieces, often reminiscent of the Orient, her favorite field of research. Tired of city life, we chose to settle in Chalendeix, a hamlet with a strong spirit (which means "bread supply" in Occitan), when our first child was born. We wanted wide-open spaces and a simple, authentic life, as close as possible to the forests and rivers and the animals that inhabit them. We fell in love with this group of buildings, a former 19th-century farmhouse. So, we had to change careers. Marc, a former building tradesman and decorative painter, gave up renovating apartments to focus on rebuilding the house, favoring local materials (granite, wood) and eco-friendly features (wood wool insulation, constructed wetland, etc.). Gaëlle said goodbye to her Prehistoric sites to immerse herself in the history of Limousin, learn to make bread, and care for cats, dogs, horses and chickens… The project was a major adventure that lasted 6 years. It took a lot of imagination to transform a barn into a spacious, comfortable and welcoming guesthouse! Six years – enough time for us to also become part of the old stones and to be able to authentically share our experience of life here. For over 10 years now, we have been welcoming families, couples, friends, solo travelers, artists... every year, always with joy and curiosity! Maison Chalendeix welcomes you to its large-capacity vacation rental (12 people, 180 m²) rated 4 ears of corn for a friendly and rejuvenating stay for families, groups or friends. The house opens to the west onto a lovely terrace overlooking forests and meadows, where it's nice to relax in the sun while reading a good book or sipping an aperitif to the sound of the small stream that runs below. Light floods the interior spaces, which are wide open to the valley. It caresses the noble materials (chestnut wood), the carefully chosen furniture, the pieces of local craftsmanship and the oriental rugs that make up the house's refined, soothing and delicate decor. Overlooking the terrace are a large living room with several comfortable sofas for cozy evenings by the fire, a spacious kitchen-dining room with its large, convivial dining table, and a large bedroom for 2 people with its own shower room. The bedroom is accessible to people with reduced mobility. On the first floor are two spacious bedrooms. Each can accommodate 3 people and has its own bathroom (one with a shower, the other with a bathtub). This is the little extra that Maison Chalendeix offers: several people can stay there in comfort and privacy! The last two spacious bedrooms are on the second floor. In one of them, you can admire the beautiful original roof structure of the farmhouse. Each sleeps two people and, as always, has its own private bathroom. The house is perfectly insulated, so you'll be nice and warm in winter. During heatwaves in summer, the ground floor stays nice and cool because the house is semi-underground, and the vine that runs along the façade provides shade from the sun. The windows of the upstairs bedrooms are equipped with blinds that keep the heat out. In addition, you can create refreshing drafts by opening the windows at night. In addition, since we are at an altitude of 510 m, temperatures drop once the sun goes down, and the nights are cool and refreshing. All beds are single beds measuring 90 cm, which can be joined to form very wide double beds measuring 180 cm. The bedding is high quality. Your nights will be peaceful and conducive to sweet dreams. Linens (tea towels) are provided, as well as dishwashing liquid, dishwasher tablets and laundry detergent, all of which are eco-friendly, because the wastewater is drained into a constructed wetland, and the plants prefer natural products. A compost bin is provided outside. You will also have an ironing board and an iron. Baby furniture (two travel cribs, a booster seat, a potty seat and a bathtub) is available upon request. Indoor and outdoor games as well as a small library are available in the living room. The garden has a barbecue, tables, chairs, a sun umbrella, and lounge chairs. A hair dryer is provided in each bathroom, as well as eco-friendly soap and shampoo dispensers. Maison Chalendeix is non-smoking. Ashtrays are available for use outside. If you would like to stay with your pet, we would prefer to discuss this with you beforehand. We love animals, and we have many of them at our home (cats, a dog, and free-range chickens). Your pet must be able to get along with the house's non-human neighbors. You can also enjoy a relaxing session in our sauna (2–3 people, €12 per 30-minute session). Finally, we provide two bicycles. Other things to note Linens and towels are included in the price. Let us know how many single or double beds you would like us to prepare. Heating is included but beyond 10kw/day, a supplement will be requested. 1/4 of a cubic meter of wood is offered. We ask for a deposit check of 400 euros which will be returned upon checkout.
