Cool Coastal Retreat

Our beach house is surprisingly lovely; don't be deceived by its slightly windswept exterior as you will walk in and feel immediately at home. There is plenty of room for all with a separate kitchen, dining and living room areas as well as a lovely little enclosed and private garden. Open farmland in front and to the side of the house and glimpses of the sea from the upstairs bedrooms add to the feeling of space. It’s a 12 minute walk or 2 minute drive from Mawgan Porth beach and amenities. The space Chy Dewetha in the Cornish language means "The Last House"and it really is the last house in the village of Trenance before swathes of open farmland and clifftops. As you enter the house, you are is met with a spacious and inviting hallway with an open tread staircase ascending to the first floor. The ground floor accommodation consists of a kitchen/breakfast room with excellent range of base and wall units incorporating a hob, double oven, extractor, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. From here is a double glazed door giving access to the outdoor shower area on the left and the back garden on the right. The main living space is beautifully presented and L shaped with an abundance of natural light. French doors open onto the patio and grassy area at the rear. Two of the bedrooms reside on the ground floor, one is a very good size twin room with the other a single/bunk room. The family bathroom has a bath and separate power shower. The open tread staircase ascends to the first floor landing with lovely big Velux rooflight. There are two substantial Kingsized bedrooms here, both light and bright with lovely country views, one with sea glimpses in the distance. Both have en-suite shower rooms. Heading outside there is a tarmac driveway with off road parking for 3-4 vehicles. At the rear is a west facing paved patio with lawned gardens and high boundary hedging for privacy, with gated access either side. One side adjoins open farmland. The magnificent sandy beach at Mawgan Porth is famous for water sports activities and stunning cliff and coastline walks serving surfers and bathers alike. Fine dining is available locally at the award-winning Scarlet Hotel as well as first class spa and recreational facilities at The Scarlet and Bedruthan Hotel. The bay provides a range of amenities including a local store, cafés, various eateries, The Merrymoor public house, surf school, and gift shops. Walkers are well placed to enjoy the wonders of the South West Coastal Path with fabulous walks to the likes of Watergate Bay and Bedruthan Steps, both within easy reach. Guest access All of it, apart from the garage where we store our things but if needed for whatever reason, please just ask. Other things to note We’re very sorry to say that we think that we can no longer accept pets, however, it is something that can be at least discussed when booking, For a long time last year, we couldn’t understand why my husbands skin allergies made him look like he’d walked head-first through a patch of nettles. After rather thorough blood testing it turns out he isn’t allergic to wheat, wine, dust — or life in general — but is, in fact, extremely allergic to dogs. We managed perfectly well with our own female dog, however after we gave a home to a male dog last Summer, his reactions became considerably worse. Apparently male dogs produce a particular type of dander to which my husband reacts very strongly. We love dogs and have always welcomed them, but at home we now keep a fairly careful routine so that both humans and animals can try coexist comfortably. Unfortunately, it has already proved that we can’t reliably maintain those conditions between guest stays at Chy Dewetha. We have a list of house rules for pets that I’m of course happy to share for your consideration if you would like to bring a dog as we all know that without accepting dogs down in Mawgan Porth, we don’t have much of a rental business BUT most importantly, we need my dear husband to still continue to enjoy our trips to beloved Cornwall. We do hope that guests will understand that this decision has been made out of love, and necessity, rather than preference.
