The space The accommodation This is a large three bedroom house which can adapt to a range of group sizes and shapes. We are mostly popular with families, walkers and cyclists, as well as people who want a comfortable home from home, that has the luxury of five star standards but with the cosiness of a family home. We can sleep up to six adults in the three bedrooms, as well as combinations of three pullout / Zbeds and cot for kids. Plus a small sofa bed for one adult/couple in the living room. For this reason we can be quite flexible for families with mixtures of adults sharing with children, and up to 6-7 individual adults walking or cycling together. For simplicity of pricing we offer maximum 7 guests total here on Airbnb. The bedrooms can be set up in the following ways (see the images) Sleeping: - 1 ensuite family room with kingsize bed, single day bed, single pull out trundle bed or room for a cot - 1 kingsize room with space for a Zbed with mattress or a cot - 1 twin room which can be converted to a superking for a small fee, and room for a cot - 1 small double sofa bed in the living room All linen and towels are included in the price, we provide fluffy towels for each guest as well as hand towels in the bathrooms. We want this to be a home from home where you can either chill out and have easy food, or make family memories with happy holiday meals. We provide things like washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen roll, oil, salt pepper etc to lighten your packing. We can sometimes accept shopping deliveries between 10-4 on the day of your arrival and put fridge/freezer food away for you by arrangement, please ask. Mud room / utility: We want you to go out and have fun, and not worry about coming home muddy. Come in through the utility door, where we have drying racks, boot racks, washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron, and old cloths for cleaning your boots! Outside space: We have a terrace for entertaining with pretty views across the town and up into the hill, with a large table and a gas barbecue. We provide picnic crockery to have fun on the terrace or take out in the provided picnic bag. The terrace is accessible from the kitchen and living room. The house is surrounded by mature gardens, the back garden is on a steep slope. There is fencing around the garden, however the nature of the location makes it difficult to make it totally secure. Therefore small children and dogs must be supervised in the garden at all times. Cars and bikes: There is a large drive which fits several cars, and a locked garage which can be used by cyclists for bike storage on request (it is not large enough for a car). The garage also has bike lock wall anchors, a water supply with equipment for washing and a foot pump. Communication: There is free wifi on site, a smart TV, good mobile reception. It is only five minutes walk down the hill to shops, post office etc. An unbeatable location The Holt Shropshire holiday cottage is located at the top of Burway Road, in Church Stretton. It is the last house before the cattle grid which divides Church Stretton from the Long Mynd. Walk left out of the drive and in a few minutes you are in a bustling historic market town, turn right and within one minute you're up on to the breathtaking Long Mynd hill, or down the footpath to paddle in the stream or reservoir or buy an icecream at the cafe to breathe in the glory of Cardingmill Valley. We do changeover cleans on Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays so we prefer stays to start and end on those days, although we can sometimes manage stays that start or end one day before or after our cleaning day. All cleaning is included in the price, we use the Airbnb policy for breakages but we have very rarely had to charge for any damages in over 10 years of lovely guests! We provide a full welcome pack, including tea, coffee, sugar and milk for the first day or so, as well as bread, butter, jam and eggs for your first evening and breakfast until you get chance to unpack and shop. There are supermarkets and small food shops within ten minutes walk. We would love to welcome you. Please message with any questions, we have lots of additional information available online. Guest access The whole house and gardens is available for use, except for the garage where we store cleaning equipment. This can be made available by arrangement for cyclists who need secure bike storage. Children and dogs must be supervised in the garden at all times as all boundaries lead to open countryside, woodlands or the Burway road. Other things to note We have passed the "Walkers Welcome" and "Cyclists Welcome" accreditation, and provide details of walking and cycling routes in the area. We provide lots of details of the local area and things to do. We test our smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly and have regular electric and gas checks. A fire extinguisher and blanket are available in the kitchen. The Burway road is a steep hill, but the Holt is on the publicly maintained and gritted part of the road. Therefore it is accessible to ordinary family cars in all but the worst weather conditions, including some light snow. However if snow or ice is due please ensure your tyres are maintained suitably for a steep road in icy conditions. Occasionally the top half of the road is closed due to ice and residents have to walk up from town until it is safe, these periods are usually short and infrequent. Please enquire if you have any concerns about the weather during your stay and we will do our best to signpost you to information to help you make good decisions. We provide stairgates and other children's equipment to reduce your packing, please ask what is available, all equipment is used at your own risk, you should assess for yourself whether you are happy with it, and bring your own items if you are not sure about the suitability. Guests must fit the top stairgate themselves if it is required, to ensure it is fitted to your own safety satisfaction. We do not provide monitors or any safety equipment. We allow one or two well behaved dogs, with a small extra cleaning fee. Dogs are not allowed upstairs or on the sofa, so we will provide a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs to help. If your dogs are used to being allowed on the sofa, please bring a plastic backed blanket (like a picnic blanket) with you. As mentioned in the garden section, dogs must be supervised in the garden and guests must always clean up after the dogs as we can’t check the whole garden during changeover and the next guests may have children playing in the garden. The mud room provides a great way to come in and get cleaned up from mucky walks, and we provide a couple of old towels. Sorry although we love cats ourselves, we can’t allow cats at The Holt because the layout means it’s not possible to stop them getting upstairs. Airbnb uses a general “furry friends” label but we can really only accommodate downstairs dogs, sorry! Do let us know if you have any other questions.
