The space Welcome to The Speaks, our 2 speakeasy styled apartments located on the 2nd floor of the historic Faxton Hall, built in 1867. We hope you enjoy the blend of vintage charm and modern comforts and invite you to unwind and transport yourself back to the Roaring '20s. Great care was taken to give The Speaks an authentic feel- we salvaged as much furniture and as many fixtures as we could from the 150 year old building, including bookcases, mirrors, picture frames, doors, and even the stairs. We wanted authenticity and a connection to the past, not perfection and mass produced furniture. We hope your stay at The Speaks is memorable, and that you enjoy the apartment, the building, and the City of Utica! Guest access As you enter the front door facing Varick Street, head up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Your apartment doors have separate key codes. Both codes will be provided the day prior to arrival. Please lock the front door after entry. Other things to note We are local folk, proud of our area and of its history. We chose to keep as much of the 150 year old building as we could, and had a lot of fun creating the Speaks, from restoring furniture to sourcing fixtures from estate sales and antique shops. We are located across the street from the Saranac Brewery, home of Utica Club, the first beer legally served after Prohibition! A brewery tour is a must if you have the time!
