Description
Charm, privacy & value! Nestled off an ancient medieval house, your cosy annex with 24-hour PRIVATE ENTRANCE has double bed & PRIVATE BATHROOM. We're inside the South Downs Nat. Park, Jane Austen's home's a 4-min drive away (or lovely walk along country footpaths). New carpet & mattress, free parking, tea, fresh-ground coffee, biscuits. We offer fresh orange juice & croissants - let us know if you don't want those! No extras or cleaning fee, just room + AirBNB service fee! What's not to love?! The space Need an affordable place for the night, or fancy the charm of one of the oldest houses in Hampshire? We tick both boxes! You have totally private access, via the side of the house. Your room & bathroom are a quiet wing at the rear of this medieval house, with a view of a sheltered garden that always has birds in it. Your room isn't huge, but is warm & cosy and ample for two. It shares no walls with the main house, meaning real privacy for you -- plus, you have exclusive use of the good-sized bathroom. We're inside the South Downs National Park, close to the historic St. Swithun's pilgrimage route, and minutes from Jane Austen's house. The excellent pub a minute's walk away has a friendly landlord and good food. You'll have compostable coffee pods and tea bags, and ethical bathroom products. We also use biodegradable cleaning products. We care about stuff like that. Guests have told us the room is incredible value, being affordable, private, with new carpet & mattress, recently decorated -- plus historic charm! By the way, history fans will love to know that Farringdon was an established settlement in the Domesday Book -- with 33 households, putting it in the largest 40% of settlements then recorded. It had 11 villagers, 20 smallholders and 2 slaves; 10 ploughlands, 1 Lord's plough team and 8 men's plough teams. Farringdon's annual value to the Lord in 1066 was --- 15 pounds! Guest access Your private ground floor wing of the rear of the house is accessed via the driveway to the left (south) side of the property; then go behind the house and along to your own exterior door. Please see the images for clear directions. It is well lit, but do be be careful on wet or cold nights if there may be water or ice. There is key which you will get from a key box with a combination lock: it's to the left of the door, under the light. Please make sure you return the key to this box when you leave ! During your stay Julie will be your point of contact, or owner Martin is often around and will answer any needs if Julie is away. Otherwise, it will be best to ring (we can't provide the mobile phone number here, but you'll receive it when you book). Other things to note Please confirm your approx. arrival time by text, as Julie and Martin are often out in the afternoon. Also -- there's plentiful hot water for a shower, but it needs to be run for a full minute to get warm, and there's a slight "knack" to getting it right by adjusting the lever and waiting a minute to make sure the temperature is fine. We'll show you this when you arrive!
