Naknek River Cabin - King Salmon/Naknek

King Salmon, Alaska is the gateway to Katmai National Park, to the best hunting and fishing in the world. Naknek is home to a world class commercial salmon fishery. The cabin is located on Lynx Loop, about half-way between King Salmon and Naknek. The space The cabin is located between King Salmon and Naknek, and over looks the Naknek river. The cabin includes: - Starlink internet access - spacious kitchen with south facing windows that provide a sunny place to cook, eat or work; - comfortable living area with a TV; - cozy bedroom with a full size bed; - twin bed and a queen size sofa bed in the living area; - one bathroom with a shower; - laundry area; - deck and viewing tower (use at your own risk). WATER SUPPLY: Lately, the groundwater in our well has been low due to unusual environmental conditions (i.e. late snow melt and lack of rainfall). It will be important to use the water conservatively (take brief showers), and only run one water source at a time in order to avoid loss of all water pressure. We will supply bottled drinking water for your convenience. We hope that recent rainy weather will soon begin to correct this problem. Guest access The cabin entrance has an electronic lock. There is a small set of steps from the parking area to access the deck and the front entrance. Press anywhere on the key pad to get started. Enter your code, followed by the check mark, on the lower right. The deadbolt automatically locks after 1 minute. To manually lock the door from the outside, simply enter your code, followed by the check mark. Other things to note Welcome! This is a REMOTE community, surrounded by 100s of miles of wilderness in all directions, only accessible via airplane. Everything is going to be very expensive. Prepare to spend 50% to 100% more than in the lower 48 states. (example: gas $8.55 per gallon) CELL SERVICE: Cell phone data is extremely limited, only verizon or GCI customers will have access. There is NO FREE WIFI available at or near the airport. For this reason, please make arrangements with either car rental (book online) or taxi company prior to your arrival. Once you arrive at the cabin, you will have access to wifi via Starlink. You can make call by changing your phone settings to "allow wifi calling". Car rental: Alaska Eagle Eye Car & Truck Rentals SERVICES: This property is not within walking distance of any stores/services. If you plan to explore the area, you will either need a rental car or to utilize the local taxi service. GROCERIES: Alaska Commercial, King Salmon Naknek Trading, Naknek Note: All food and other goods for purchase must be shipped to our community via airplane or seasonal barge. We have a hardworking team of EMT and Fire responders to call upon, if needed. BUGS: We have a large number of biting insects in the summer months: Mosquitos, White Socks and No-See-Ums. Bug spray, head nets and bug jackets are available at the stores. WILDLIFE: You may encounter wildlife around the cabin. Please do not leave any garbage or food items outside, as it will attract bears, fox, ravens, eagles and other wildlife looking for an easy meal. While seeing them up close may sound fun, we do not want them eating garbage, destroying property or becoming a danger to humans. WEATHER: Our weather can be highly unpredictable. You may experience cold, warm, fog, rain, wind, and sunny clear skies, all in the same 24 hours. The local joke is "don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes." WHAT TO WEAR: All roads, driveways and walkways (except for the main highway) are dirt or gravel. Prepare to walk on dirty, muddy and uneven surfaces, depending on the weather. I recommend sturdy, waterproof boots or shoes, and clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. I recommend bringing layers, including long sleeves and long pants (to protect from cold, but also from the bugs) and a waterproof jacket with a hood. Many of the things described above may seem very inconvenient, but remember, you are coming to Alaska for an adventure!
