Self-check-in is simple and secure with a personalized smart-lock code delivered through the HappyGuest digital guide before your arrival. 🌱 A Living Landscape Sugar River Retreat is a living landscape in the midst of an active ecological restoration. Our prairies, woodlands, and wetlands are being managed to support a healthy and diverse ecosystem. We partner with the Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy (SWLC) to guide our restoration efforts with nearly 200 documented species of native plants, grasses, sedges, and trees identified so far. Our restoration plan is available onsite for those interested. Because ecological work doesn’t follow a fixed schedule, you may occasionally notice us, biologists, or conservation partners working in remote sections of the property. Activities might include native seed collection, trail maintenance, or invasive species removal. All work is conducted far from the cabin, yard, and lake to maintain your privacy, and we provide advance notice whenever possible. From time to time, the University of Wisconsin hosts workshops along Norwegian Creek or in the wetland areas, giving guests a unique chance to see hands-on conservation in action. Guest access We use HappyGuest, a secure, app-free digital portal that makes arrival and check-in seamless.
