Our houseboat is firmly mounted on the jetty and hardly moves at all. The high weight of about 16 tons also ensures a quiet location, which means that you will normally not notice that you do not have solid ground under your feet. However, since you are not below deck, but have an unobstructed view of the horizon, it is unlikely that you will get seasick even with strong fluctuations. In the prevailing weather from the south-west, our houseboat is in the lee of the shore and the waves run towards the north-east to the other side of the shore. Only with stronger winds from the sea side can there be slight splashing on the two hulls. How is the houseboat supplied with energy and water? The houseboat is supplied with fresh water from the water pipe - just like a normal vacation home. It is also connected to the sewer and the power grid. How can I use the electric boat? Our houseboat is moored to the jetty and cannot be moved. To explore the Xanten lakes, we have purchased two electric boats for our guests in addition to our bicycles. In the houseboat, smoke detectors are installed in the living room and the two bedrooms and there is a fire extinguisher. The kitchen has an electric ceramic hob and there is no gas system. For leisure activities, life jackets are available for 2 children and 4 adults and a lifebuoy is available on board. The doors and windows are secured against burglary when locked with bolts gripping at several positions. In addition, the jetty system is secured with a stable and lockable door. So you and your personal belongings are well protected with us. What about sun and shade? Outside you have the opportunity to enjoy the sun on the roof terrace or to protect yourself from the sun under the parasol. The bow terrace is in the shade at noon and is only illuminated by the sun in the morning, morning and evening, whereby the overhanging roof ensures that you will also find a shady spot at this time. Inside, the rooms are protected against too much sunlight with heat protection glazing and mirrored pleated blinds. In addition, the houseboat has a modern heat pump heating system, which heats in winter and can be used as air conditioning in summer. Is the houseboat suitable for small children? The houseboat is NOT suitable for small children who cannot swim! Life jackets are available, but the residual risk is too high in our view. For all other children from preschool or primary school age who can already swim, a vacation on a houseboat is of course an absolute experience. As a minimum requirement, we would recommend a "seahorse" with sufficient swimming experience so that the children can move freely under your supervision. In the absence of parents, we strongly recommend that children wear life jackets - even if you only go to the neighboring houseboat or car for a short time. Can we grill on the houseboat? Yes, barbecuing is allowed with the electric grill available in the houseboat on the bow or roof terrace. Since the connected load of the houseboat is limited, only a maximum of one electric grill can be operated at the same time. Barbecue utensils are available on the houseboat.
