Description

Located in the pretty market town of Olney, home of the song “Amazing Grace”. Phone box 16 is a unique and stylish studio. The bedroom is usually a superking size bed but it could be made up as 2 single beds. Please let us know if you would like 2 single beds. Locally there is choice of restaurants, pubs and shops along with open countryside and walks and a country park with sailing, boardwalks, cafe and hides overlooking the lakes. The space The property was built around 1885 as a workshop for lace makers and cobblers. Being close to the railway station, now closed, it was ideal for the buyers to walk down the lane buying lace and shoes on route to the Market Place, or one of the many pubs for lunch. Collecting their purchases on the return journey. The building has now been fully refurbished and provides comfortable accommodation for those visiting this historical town. Olney was once a centre of the lacemaking and the boot and shoe industries. It is a thriving, bustling community with plenty to offer visitors. The town is best known for its architecture. Located just 25 miles from Silverstone it is a great location for Motor sport and the British Grand Prix. Towcester race course is just 21 miles away if you are a horse racing fan. The annual Pancake Race, established in 1445, also attracts visitors from as far afield as the USA and Japan The Cowper and Newton Museum on the Market Place, was home to William Cowper from 1768-1786. John Newton, curate, and author of Amazing Grace also lived in Olney, close to the church. Together they wrote the famous Olney Hymns. The 14th Century church of St Peter and St Paul, with its 200ft spire dominates the entrance to the town. Emberton Park and Clifton meadows are near by offering river and lakeside walks, sailing, canoeing, fishing, and many other activities. There is even a vineyard just outside Emberton producing a very palatable range of wines. Olney’s wide High Street (one of the widest in England) offers a mix of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, and an interesting collection of delightful shops. It invites you to explore the side alleys to discover more shops and walkways without taking you away from the main town. The weekly market on Thursday and local Farmers’ Market on the first Sunday of the month add a buzz to the activities of the town. With free parking throughout and easy access from the M1 Olney is a wonderful place to visit. Situated on the river Ouse, Olney hosts raft and duck races in early July with family entertainment, rivalry, and fun. The firework display in November is spectacular and provides easy parking and access to the event. Dickens of a Christmas, now an established event, takes place on either the first or second Sunday in December. The whole town comes to life with a traditional Victorian Christmas market with live entertainment. Guest access You have private access, via own front door, to the whole property and the South facing garden area outside the phone box. Other things to note Central to Milton Keynes, Bedford and Northampton and only 7 miles from J14 of the M1. Bedford and Milton Keynes railway stations are both 11 miles away. Around 45 minutes to Central London from either station. Bletchley Park is only 25 minutes away The National Bowl is just 13 Miles away Silverstone motor race circuit is 25 miles away Towcester horse race course is 21 miles away Oxford is only 50 miles away, and Cambridge is 44 miles away
