The 16th Century Costantina Tower with Sea View

The Torre Costantina is a 16th-century circular Saracen tower, erected in Forio d'Ischia as a defense against Turkish pirates. It is located in the center of Forio, 400 m from the port and the lively center, with beaches such as Chiaia and Cava dell'Isola a 15-minute walk away. From the panoramic terrace you can access the living room with a sofa, and a kitchenette. A staircase leads to the bedroom with two windows: one overlooking the sea and sunsets, the other overlooking Mount Epomeo. The space Located in the historic center of Forio, the house consists of a 16th-century Saracen Tower, as attested by the bond of the Superintendence of Architectural Heritage of Naples. The Tower is accessed through a charming colonnade that runs through the garden, which is shared with the owner's house. From the garden, you enter the private space of the Tower through a stone arch; a short driveway leads to the panoramic terrace from which you can access the interior of the Tower. The Tower offers a special charm due to its history and location, but it is also a comfortable home. The southwest-facing terrace is equipped with a table to enjoy your meals with a splendid view of the town's historic center and the Church of Soccorso with the sea in the background, as well as a bench and a teak wood deckchair, for relaxing afternoons watching the sunset over the sea, the island of Ventotene and, if you are lucky, even the green ray. The interior decor is very refined with various details of Moroccan origin, the kitchen is equipped with a small fridge, sink and 4 burners; the bedroom has a large wardrobe and, in addition to the two windows, it has a trap door that opens on the ceiling and allows you to cool the Tower in case of great heat. The temperature in the Tower is always pleasant due to the great thickness of the walls. This Tower, one of the few circular and non-square ones, is called “Torre Costantina” and offered refuge to the inhabitants of the town when the Turkish pirates invaded the island: from it they could also control the accesses 360 degrees thanks to the slits in the large walls, still visible even if closed to the outside. In the 1950s, the tower hosted numerous artists and intellectuals who frequented Forio, including the Swiss painter Lelo Fiaux and her friend, the Forian painter Bolivar. Guest access The Medieval Garden of the Tower has two entrances: a pedestrian entrance that leads to the colonnaded avenue in front of the Tower, and a parking entrance where you can leave bicycles and scooters, connected to the garden. The terrace of the Tower with sea view is for the exclusive use of guests, and equipped for relaxing. The medieval garden is shared with the owner: there are various areas with deck chairs or hammocks and therefore you can stay in the same garden without disturbing each other.
