Description

Welcome to Downtown DeKalb’s most charming and highly-rated historic stay! This beautifully restored home offers both modern comfort and vintage charm. The Gurler House, built in 1857, is on the National Register of Historic Places. This lovingly updated home sits back in a gorgeous park-like setting surrounded by nature. While nestled in a peaceful neighborhood, it is only 2 blocks from the Egyptian Theatre and all the downtown shops and restaurants and only a couple minutes away from NIU. The space This home has been lovingly updated while preserving its historic charm. The gorgeous original windows made of bubble glass fill the space with natural light. Sitting in the living and dining area is like sitting in a library with a comfy soft deep seated leather couch and reclining chair surrounded by beautiful antique books that belonged to the Gurler family. Get cozy with the remote controlled gas fireplace as you watch a movie on the 55” smart TV. Play cards or one of the other many family games provided at the dining table, which seats 4-6 people. Enjoy a book or a game of backgammon in the little nook in front of the gorgeous windows that face the park-like front yard. Make a home-cooked meal with a fully stocked and newly remodeled kitchen. This adorable kitchen will make you want to do the dishes (which is good, because there is no dishwasher). It’s that cute! Step out the back door and have a seat on the comfortable patio furniture while enjoying the ambiance of a fire with a gas fire-pit. And, while you’re out there, you can cook something up on the gas grill for dinner! During the warmer seasons, play one of yard games provided- corn hole or yard Jenga! Or just sit and relax under the shade of the mature trees throughout the yard. Toast marshmallows over our new wood burning fire pit, sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful yard by a warm fire on a cool evening . Upstairs, there is an office nook with an antique desk where you can enjoy beautiful views out the large windows as you work using the high-speed internet. The two bedrooms (both upstairs) are cozy and provide a soothing place to relax and comfortable beds to sleep, one with a queen bed and one with a full-sized bed. Both bedrooms have bedside table lamps with built-in outlets and USB ports. Being a historic home, there is only one bathroom, and it is upstairs. It has been remodeled while keeping its historic charm, with a spacious walk-in shower and an antique vanity/sink. Do your laundry in the new stackable washer/dryer, located in the bathroom for your convenience. We have loved bringing this beautiful historic home back to life and we are excited to share its story and cozy atmosphere with our guests. Guest access You will have access to the entire home except for the attic, basement and storage closet, which are all locked. This home is a duplex and there is a lovely quiet tenant on the East side of the home. They have a separate entrance, and their apartment only shares the wall next to the stairs. None of the living areas have any shared walls. The driveway belongs to the tenant, so Airbnb guests will need to park on the street. On street parking spaces are always available, safe and free. Other things to note We do not allow parties. Please respect this is a historical home in a residential neighborhood. Quiet hours are from 10pm-7am. We are sorry, but we are unable to accept pets due to allergies. The yard and wood fire pit are shared with the tenant on the other side of the duplex.
