The proximity of the water of several streams, of the village stream itself and especially the Degebe River that crosses the Parish, would make wet those lands allowing the abundance of its own vegetation, among which the lovers. This natural designation may have come to identify the place, along with the sacred identification, assigned to the parish: Nª Sª das Neves da Amieira. The date of the foundation of this village is not known, although in the “Book of Goods of D. João de Portel” there are already references to an “Amieira de Maura”, in the year 1263, when the donation of estates to the new owner of the term of Portel (D.
