Family-run, off-grid woodland retreat on the edge of the Peak District. Exclusive use of a secluded bell tent with a private wood-fired hot tub, fire pit, outdoor kitchen, hot shower and eco loo, in 4 acres of woodland on our working farm. Just one bell tent, so the whole wood is yours. Sleeps 2–6, bedding included, dog friendly. No electricity — a place to switch off beneath a sky full of stars. Access on foot via a steep, uneven woodland path; not suitable for guests with mobility issues. The space Set within 4 acres of completely secluded woodland on a family working farm, Secret Wood is a true off-grid escape offering privacy, nature and a proper break from everyday life. There's just one bell tent, tucked among the trees, so you'll have the whole woodland to yourselves — with a natural stream running through it and abundant wildlife all around. The cosy bell tent sleeps up to six, with a comfortable double bed, a double sofa bed and two single camp beds — all made up with fresh bedding, ready for your arrival. Ideal for a couple, a family, or a group of friends. With no electricity, it's a place to properly unplug: wake to birdsong and fall asleep beneath a sky full of stars. The site is equipped for comfortable off-grid living. You'll have a private wood-fired hot tub to wallow in under the stars and a fire pit with seating for long, slow evenings. There's a covered outdoor kitchen, a hot running outdoor shower and an eco composting loo. The tent is warmed by a wood-burning log stove — there is no electric heating. A note on the season: the nights are drawing in now we're into autumn, so it gets dark early and the woods can be cold, especially after sunset. Autumn weather in the Peak District can be changeable, so please come prepared for all weathers — warm layers, waterproofs and good lighting will make your stay far more comfortable. WHAT'S PROVIDED The site is set up for comfortable off-grid living, with everything you need for cooking and relaxing: • Hot running outdoor shower • Covered outdoor kitchen with a two-burner gas stove (gas included) • Pots, pans, plates, bowls, mugs and cutlery • Kettle and BBQ utensils • Fire pit and BBQ area • Picnic bench for outdoor dining • Private wood-fired hot tub • Eco composting loo • All bedding provided • Drinking water supplied WHAT TO BRING As we're a completely off-grid woodland site, a little preparation makes all the difference. We provide all bedding, but please remember to bring: • Towels (not provided) • Torches and/or head torches — essential, as there is no electricity and it gets very dark in the woods, especially now the nights are longer • A lantern or battery lights for inside the tent • A power bank to keep phones charged • Warm layers, a cosy jumper and a hat — the woods get cold, particularly after dark in autumn • Waterproofs — Peak District weather can change quickly, so come prepared for all weathers • Sturdy, waterproof footwear or wellies — the paths are uneven and can be muddy • Camping chairs — lovely for relaxing around the fire • Logs, kindling and fire starters for the log stove and hot tub (or pre-order from us) • Any food and drink you'd like A backpack is ideal for the walk down to the tent, so you can travel light and hands-free. THE HOT TUB & LOGS The hot tub is wood-fired, kept warm by topping it up with logs through your stay — part of the off-grid experience. It takes a couple of hours to heat from cold, so if you'd like it hot and ready the moment you arrive, we can heat it for you for an extra £50 (with at least 24 hours' notice). Logs can also be pre-ordered for your arrival at £15 per bag, so everything's waiting when you get here. Logs and kindling are essential for both the hot tub and the log stove, so please bring a good supply or pre-order from us. GETTING HERE & ACCESS Please note: access is on foot only. The car park is approximately a five-minute walk from the tent, along a steep natural incline with uneven field and woodland paths and varied terrain, which can be muddy and slippery. We recommend packing light — a backpack is ideal — and bringing sturdy outdoor footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Because of the woodland terrain and incline, the site is not suitable for guests with walking or mobility difficulties. We meet you at the car park and walk you down. As this is a working farm, with large machinery and animals moving around, please stay in your car when you arrive at the car park until we come to meet you. You may occasionally see or hear farm activity during your stay — all part of the countryside experience. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement for a small additional charge. Check in 3pm – 6pm Check out 10am LOCATION & NEARBY Surrounded by countryside and woodland, Secret Wood is well placed for exploring the Peak District, with scenic walks straight from the farm. The Royal Oak at Millthorpe is within walking distance via country lanes and footpaths, and other excellent local pubs include The Peacock at Owler Bar, The Angel at Holmesfield and The Peacock at Barlow. Popular nearby destinations include Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Matlock Farm Park and Linacre Reservoir, with Ladybower Reservoir around 45 minutes away and the towns of Sheffield and Chesterfield close by. A car is recommended for exploring the wider area. Guest access Guests have exclusive access to the private woodland glamping area, including the bell tent, fire pit, hammock, outdoor cooking area, eco composting loo and hot outdoor shower. The accommodation is accessed on foot only from the car park. The car park is approximately a 5-minute walk to the setting and includes a natural incline and uneven ground. Access is not step-free and involves walking on natural woodland paths. The surrounding woodland is part of a working farm; guests may see or hear farm activity. Farm operational areas are not accessible to guests. In-person check-in is required, and guests will be met on arrival and shown to the woodland setting. Other things to note ♿ Accessibility Disclaimer Please note that due to uneven woodland paths, natural terrain and steps, this off-grid woodland setting is not suitable for guests with walking or mobility difficulties. Guests should be comfortable walking on natural ground, especially in wet or low-light conditions. Location & Nearby Surrounded by countryside and woodland, the setting is well placed for exploring the Peak District. There are scenic walks from the farm, with The Royal Oak in Millthorpe within walking distance via country lanes and footpaths. Other excellent local pubs include The Peacock (Owler Bar), The Angel (Holmesfield) and The Peacock (Barlow). On-site, guests can make use of our small honesty shop, stocking free-range eggs, logs, home-reared meats, burgers, sausages, bread, honey, disposable BBQs and coals — ideal for relaxed evenings without needing to head out after arrival. The wood-fired hot tub is emptied, cleaned and refilled with fresh water for every stay. It is not pre-lit by default. If you’d like the hot tub heated for your arrival, this can be arranged with at least 24 hours’ notice for an additional £50.
