Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape. Situated in the South Downs National Park, enjoy unrivalled views and access to magnificent countryside. Selborne village, a short walk away, famous for its association with 18th century naturalist Gilbert White. Neighbouring Chawton, three miles away, home to Jane Austen, Novelist. With outstanding pubs, market towns, Goodwood, Winchester and endless footpaths, Galley Hill provides the ideal base from which to explo The space Galley Hill Garden Studio offers a spacious and bright living space in a rural Hampshire setting. Open plan living includes a handy, well appointed kitchenette with a good sized under counter fridge, a small sink and draining area with cupboard space and microwave above. There is a counter top oven, a single convection hob and all associated pots and pans. The facilities are limited but sufficient for simple food prep and cooking In addition we provide a few basic oils, condiments and cleaning products. *On request we are happy to supply further provisions for breakfast including local eggs, sourdough, milk and butter. If you wanted to it would be possible to cook a Sunday Roast but with a wide range of pubs and restaurants within easy each most guests keep cooking simple. A large and comfy sofa and occasional chairs, TV and french style dining table complete the space. There is hanging for coats and storage for shoes inside the studio but guests can also access extra storage for really muddy or wet outdoor gear as required. An immediate outdoor area for your exclusive use with outdoor seating, mini BBQ and fire pit offers opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and night sky all year round, weather permitting and we provide outdoor blankets and wood as required. The bathroom is spacious and has a stand alone shower with good water pressure. A bath, sink and loo. The main bedroom is of good size with views over the fields, a dressing table, large enough to serve as a work station. Twin beds can be made up as a double, hanging for clothes. The second bedroom is accessed via the main bedroom with a proper door between the two. We provide good quality linen and additional blankets the property is well insulated, cosy and warm. Black out blinds in both rooms make for the perfect nights sleep! We do our upmost to be eco friendly and those values are reflected in all we do here at Galley Hill. The land has been free of pesticides for the last 24 years and wild life flourishes. Wild flowers, cowslips, orchids to name a few are spectacular and birdlife in particular is ever present. In addition we have our own horses and visiting sheep, who all play a part in maintaining the delicate balance we all enjoy. Whether looking for a work space away from home, a holiday or short break we look forward to welcoming you. In keeping with our ethos there is EV charging and for those wishing to ditch the car on arrival there are pubs and eateries all in walking distance to keep you occupied for months. Our guests can also enjoy other areas within our 10 acres to watch the sun go down or simply enjoy the night sky. Guest access The Garden studio has its own front door, set behind a small private seating area. Everything is on one level however access to the property is up seven or so steps, a picture shown in the photos so please do be mindful when booking. We are very happy for guests to enjoy the surrounding 10 acres, mainly chalk downland grazing. We have horses and dogs. The property accesses straight on to the vast network of footpaths, byways and bridlepaths that surround the area. In spring and early summer wild flowers grow in abundance and sky larks, kites to name but a few can be both heard and seen. The village of Selborne is a short 8 min walk away where guests will find a pub, The Selborne Arms serving great food, the Jubilee Tap, open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings The Wakes, former home and now a museum for all things Gilbert White has a beautiful tea rooms and coffee shop. Other things to note For those looking to immerse themselves in the local culture, a visit to the Selborne Arms is a must for a hearty meal or refreshing drink after a day of exploration. Just a short drive away, the nearby town of Petersfield offers further amenities including shops and pubs for your convenience. History enthusiasts can delve into the life of the renowned naturalist, Reverend Gilbert White, at Gilbert White’s House & The Oates Museum, or visit the local pottery studio to appreciate regional craftsmanship. Don't miss the charming St. Mary the Virgin church, a grade-I listed building that dates back to the late 12th century. Literary buffs will be thrilled to find that Jane Austen's former home in Chawton is only three miles away, allowing for a glimpse into the life of one of England's most cherished authors. This year the area celebrates the 250th birthday of Jane Austen so do look out for events during your stay.
