You will find in our house an atmosphere where well-being and comfort prevail. Old house renovated and decorated in 2018 Scandinavian country style. A little history: On the night of June 5-6, 1944, an American paratrooper Clifford A. Maugham, of the 505th PIR of the 82nd US Airborne Division, landed in the garden of this house at 1:45 a.m. The house, then occupied by a German officer who had returned from Russia tired, lived with the Monnier family. In the night of noise due to the bombings, the noise of the planes, Mr. Monnier, with his wife and daughter, went to take shelter in the trench at the bottom of the garden when a paratrooper fell next to them and got stuck with them in the trench... The German officer, having seen everything, arrived pointing his rifle at the American. Mr. Monnier spontaneously interposed himself between the two men, who ended up talking to each other calmly, the German officer having understood that the Americans were everywhere! The French family spent these incredible few hours with these 2 enemies who ended up respecting each other. Maughan handed out chocolates, chewing gum and cigarettes (even to the German). The American eventually took the German and made him a prisoner. He made a promise to the German and the family not to kill him. After saying goodbye and thanking the family, the German was taken away with other prisoners. The Monnier girl saw Maughan again on the 40th anniversary of the landing and recalled this memory forever etched in their memories. Other things to note A snack bar is located in the front yard of the house (the snack bar is open from May to October from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in high season) but does not interfere with access, the outdoor space (the garden is on the other side, enclosed and not overlooked). There is therefore no nuisance.
