Description

Our summer cottage is close to lovely beaches and beautiful nature. Short way to the city center with all the city center facilities. The cabin is from 1939, but was modernized in 2012 with, among other things, a new kitchen and bathroom. Large garden with lawn and pitch. There is parking in the parking lot by the main road and a walkway down to the cabin. The space Welcome to "Gro" Our cabin was built in 1939 by pharmacist Jens Bjørnebo, and bears the name "Gro" – a symbol of growth and prosperity. Back then, there were full-time gardeners who cared for the property, and the traces of this can still be seen today: old paths, the romantic suitor's bench and the charming gardener's shed that still stands. The cabin is idyllically located by the sea, where Jens rowed across the fjord to Måløy, where his pharmacy was located. The story is in the walls – and on the walls. In the living room hangs a peculiar painting of Hornelen, painted by the artist Hartmann, a frequent guest here. Underneath the painting there are several decorated barrels with motifs from the property, also made by Hartmann. In 2012, the cabin was carefully modernized with a new bathroom, corridor, bedroom and kitchen. At the same time, cladding and windows were replaced, and the roof was taken down and put back up according to traditional building practice. The living room was preserved as it originally was – with its distinctive expression and original soul – precisely because we wanted to preserve the unique atmosphere. A new fireplace was built in line with the original and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The 1939 boathouse is still down by the lake. It is currently not available for guests, as it is awaiting renovation. The cabin is perfectly located for nature experiences and excursions. Within a 15-minute drive, you will find some of the most beautiful places in Western Norway – the chalk-white beach at Refviksanden, idyllic Sætrasanden and the mighty Kråkenes lighthouse, where the sea meets the sky. The area also offers countless hiking opportunities for both small and large explorers. A restaurant tip: Visit Havfruen in Måløy, known for its fresh and tasty seafood – an experience you won't want to miss. "Gro" is the place for those seeking tranquility, nature experiences and a stay with historical flair and character. Warm welcome! Guest access Guests can use the entire property. Other things to note Experience beautiful Vågsøy and the surrounding area – My best tips for day trips and experiences Vågsøy and the surrounding area offer some of the best Norway has to offer – magnificent nature, spectacular viewpoints, beautiful beaches and coastal culture in vibrant communities. Here are some of the highlights we recommend: In the immediate area (within 15–20 minutes from the cabin): Refviksanden – One of Norway's most beautiful sandy beaches with chalk-white sand and turquoise sea. Perfect for swimming on hot days, or a fresh walk in all kinds of weather. Sætrasanden – A smaller, sheltered pearl of a beach that is suitable for families with children or for those who want a calmer experience. Kråkenes Lighthouse – A dramatic and wildly beautiful place at the end of the sea, known for spectacular waves and sunsets. Here you can really feel the forces of nature on your body! Kannesteinen - A naturally shaped stone sculpture that has been polished by waves for thousands of years. A popular photo motif – and a small miracle in itself. Veten – Vågsøy's highest mountain with stunning views of the sea and fjord. The hike up is well marked and suitable for most people with normal fitness. Hendanes Lighthouse – One of Norway's most photogenic lighthouses, dramatically located on a cliff overlooking the sea. The trip there is short, but the experience is great. Restaurants and local food: Havfruen in Måløy - Highly recommended for fresh seafood and a pleasant atmosphere. Here you get served flavors from the sea straight from the fish reception. Recommended day trips: Stryn and Loen - Approx. 1.5 hours drive. Here you will find spectacular mountains and glaciers. Feel free to try Loen Skylift which takes you to the top of Hoven (1011 masl) in a few minutes – with views you will not forget! Selje and Selja monastery - A beautiful day trip to the monastery island Selja by boat from Selje. A peaceful and historic place linked to the legend of St. Sunniva. Stadlandet – Here the sea and mountains meet in a dramatic and wild landscape. Hoddevik is popular with surfers, while Ervik offers both beach and historic chapel. Stad is also the place for great nature experiences, regardless of the season. Whether you love hiking in the mountains, beach life, history or just want to enjoy peace and views – Vågsøy and the surrounding area have something for everyone. We recommend setting aside time for both discoveries and relaxation – and hope you will find your own favorite places here. Have a good trip and welcome to our part of the coast!
