Description

Nestled upstairs, the Maayun room ("love" in Kei language) is bathed in light and offers a peaceful atmosphere, facing the garden and the sea. Its decoration combines natural wood and local crafts in a warm and elegant style. Its private bathroom, located on the ground floor, opens onto an adjoining terrace, ideal for relaxing. Equipped with hot water, fan and air conditioning, it combines charm and comfort. The space The concept of Villa Manoa Villa Manoa is not just a guest house. It is designed as a place of life, art and transmission, rooted in the culture of the Kei Islands and open to the world. Nestled between the lagoon and the forest, it embodies the Austronesian spirit: living in harmony with nature, sharing everyday life in simplicity, and offering everyone a unique space to meet. Each room has been designed as a living piece of art, shaped from driftwood, woven bamboo, volcanic stones and local know-how. The concept is based on three pillars: 1. Authenticity and culture The villa is located in the heart of the traditional village of Ohoidertawun, on land governed by the customary law of Larvul Ngabal. Guests are invited to discover the soul of Kei culture through encounters, crafts, music, and sea rituals. 2. Well-being and sensory experience Manoa is designed as a sanctuary where time slows down. Spa, Austronesian steam baths, beach bar by the seawater pool, Austronesian fusion cuisine, shared meals: every moment nourishes the body and mind. 3. Exploration and connection to the territory The villa is also a starting point for exploring the Kei Islands and the Moluccas: exclusive boat expeditions, bivouacs on deserted beaches, snorkeling, hiking, traditional fishing, and birdwatching. The adventure is tailor-made, in line with the seasons and local communities. A philosophy of life Manoa is for those who seek more than a stay: an encounter with a territory, a culture and a way of inhabiting the world. Here, hospitality becomes an art, and every detail tells a story — that of the Kei Islands and their links to the immense Austronesian world. Guest access Guest access Guests have access to all common areas of the property: Seawater pool with terrace and beach bar, Beachfront coffee shop and large dining room, Spa with massages and Austronesian steam bath, Leisure: ping pong table, beach volleyball court, bicycles, paddles and skateboards available. Other things to note At Manoa, we believe that the protection of nature cannot be dissociated from the protection of traditions. The ancestral customs of the Kei Islands – such as hawear, respect for taboos and the sasi system that regulates fishing and harvesting – are living guardians of the environment. These customary rules, passed down for generations, remind us that the sea, the forest and the land are sacred and must be shared with respect. By supporting local communities and valuing their knowledge, we are committed to preserving both the culture and the ecosystem that make up the archipelago's wealth. Meaningful tourism At Manoa, we believe it is essential that tourism does not become a scourge for the islands, but remains a source of learning and awareness. Traveling here means discovering a fragile culture, traditions and ecosystem that require respect and humility. Every encounter, every excursion, every shared meal becomes an opportunity to learn local knowledge, to understand the importance of taboos and customary rules, and to strengthen the link between man and nature. We want our guests to leave not only with memories, but also with a new awareness: that of an island world where the balance between traditions and the environment is the key to the future.
