Highlights 70sqm, 2 bedrooms with air conditioning, 9 Beds (several double and single beds), gallery and interior patio, fireplace, stone floor, idyllic with vine arbor covered courtyard, central, yet peaceful location, 150m to old harbor and town beach for refreshing morning bath as well as a charming village square with numerous taverns History Build by the Venetians about 500 years ago as part of a monastery right behind the old port, it was later used by the Turks as a residence. The Turks expand the smaller of the two rooms on the upper floor by a typical wooden oriel. Then 100 years ago, the Turkish inhabitants in this idyllic village atmosphere Splantsia district are replaced by Greek refugees from Smyrna (now Ismir). Our Greek-German family bought the house about 15 years ago in completely desolate condition. We lovingly modernized it and kept the original style, so that the charm of the house is still preserved today. Equipment The house has a living space of 70 square meters. On the ground floor a living/kitchen room with a fireplace and a bathroom with a washing machine and hot water boiler. Upstairs are two bedrooms with several single and double beds. Additional space for beds is integrated on the gallery on the upper part of the large bed room. Likewise upstairs the house has a inside patio covered with an vine arbor. The patio has an open shower and space for two more beds, mostly used by us for siesta. Finally the most beautiful room of the house is the courtyard right in front of the house. It is also covered by a vine and bouganvilla arbor. This idyllic courtyard you will leave only just for shopping or for a refreshing bath at the 150m distant city beach "Koumkapi". Location The house is located in the Splatsia district, which lies directly behind the old port of Chania. It is characterized by Venetian style of narrow streets, narrow but deep houses and courtyards. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Who has been here once knows why. The immediate neighborhood is characterized by a rural idyll. Nevertheless, the center and the always lively port are nearby. The Splantsia Square or Plateia 1821, is also a place with a moving story. It is surrounded by cafes, taverns and the local church of Ag. Nikolaos. It is recognizable by the Venetian campanile as well as the Turks minaret. The area immediately adjacent to the north east on the waterfront "Koumkapi". This can be reached by finding your path through the maze-like streets of the neighborhood. Have fun :-). The adjacent waterfront is busy at night as well as during the day. Especially in the morning it is ideal for a refreshing bath. The water is suitable for swimming and it is continuously monitored. Pensioners and children of the neighborhood are daily swimming here too. You will make new friends daily. Guest access You have access to all the rooms and items in the house and you have the house to yourself only. Other things to note The house is the summer home of our family, so there are numerous private items. Everything in the house may be shared by you with appropriate care.
