Once the teacher's residence of the adjoining tiny schoolhouse, the house is equipped for modern living but still maintains an old time charm. A quiet and amazingly beautiful retreat away from the tourist traps. You can enjoy a wonderful relaxing time to eat,drink or schedule a massage (see info) in our new heated conservatory with amazing views of Casheen Bay. The space The listing is unique because it is located in a very special part of Ireland, a place where tour buses don't quite get to! Your stay will be had alongside the people who have lived in the Gaeltacht for generations. What makes it even more special is that the house is situated right on the water and the views are spectacular. The house also adjoins a small two room school house that is no longer in use. It was built as the teacher's residence in 1902 but has been completely modernized inside. The stone fireplace however stands as a reminder of times past. There is a small kitchen with a fridge, dishwasher, and all the kitchen tools you will need to cook during your stay at the house including a Nespresso machine and air fryer . There are towels, sheets, a hair dryer and a hot shower. The upstairs area of the house has a large space considered as one bedroom and two very small bedrooms off of it. The large space has a double bed (which has a curtain rail around it for privacy) and a single chair/bed. The two small bedrooms each have a 4ft bed (small double). Downstairs has a bedroom with a queen bed. Children must be supervised at all times as the sea comes right up to the back of the house. There is ample parking for several cars and a boat ramp should you decide to bring your own boat/kayaks. You will be greeted by a local lad who will show you around and answer all your questions. I want to interact with guests and expect mutually honest relationships by email. The location is unique and authentic and you will be right in the heart of the Irish Speaking Community. You will see the locals on curraghs (traditional boats) collecting sea weed and hand fishing for mackerel, scallops and lobster and hear their stories. Depending on the time of year you can burn wood or turf on the fire or sit outside and take in the views. There is a picnic table and barbecue for outdoor lunch. The Aran Islands are only ten miles away by sea. There are numerous coves, beaches and inlets to explore along the rugged coastline. Children from all around Ireland come to stay in houses in this community during the summer months to learn the language so you may notice them on your walks along the winding roads of Cnoc down to Tra Ban (white beach). Of course you could venture to Carraroe the nearest village if you are missing a supermarket! Golf Anyone? Connemara Isles Golf Club is located in close by Lettermore. This distinctive island course offers a unique opportunity to play golf on the edge of the Atlantic ocean while enjoying the breathtaking views of Cill Chiaráin Bay, Cnoc Leitir Móir and Cnoc Mordáin. This 9 hole golf course is a golfers gem. After the game relax in the friendly atmosphere of Irelands only thatched club house and experience the magical beauty of the Irish language You might also want to take a 50 minute drive to the more 'tourist driven' villages of Clifden or Roundstone and enjoy some of the traditional music in the pubs and shops that are more plentiful there. It is advisable to have a car as there is no public transportation or taxis available. Other things to note You can arrange for a qualified massage therapist to come to the house. She will bring her massage table right to the privacy of the conservatory where you can enjoy her services with a beautiful view and warm fire.
