Description

Our traditional open-air home is in a verdant jungle garden overlooking secluded beaches & the village of Yelapa, 45 min. south of Puerto Vallarta by water taxi. Savor panoramic views of the bay, the misty mountainsides & spectacular sunrises up-river. Staying in the village of Yelapa (no cars) you will feel part of traditional life, awakening to the sounds of tropical birds & roosters, then enjoy great local restaurants. Casa Iguana sleeps up to 6 comfortably. Hi-speed Internet is included! The space Casa Iguana is located in an acre of sunny garden with unique tropical plants and large trees full of birds and butterflies. The open-air two story palapa has a complete kitchen, large dining table and a comfortable sitting area on the ground floor which converts to a bed. There are two queen beds on the second floor, with spectacular views. There is a wonderful outdoor bathhouse with shower. The entire property is walled in for security. If you have a large party, across the secluded garden is our Casa Mariposa, a thatched roof two-story palapa that sleeps 5, also available on AirBnB. Guest access You will have access to the entire house, its outdoor bath house and the surrounding gardens with hanging hammocks. Other things to note The village of Yelapa is a 45-minute ferry boat ride south of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco Mexico. The water ferries leave approximately once an hour from PV or nearby Boca de Tomatlan. Our property is a 10-minute walk up from the Yelapa town dock, village restaurants and shops. The last 50 meters of the path is steep at several points, with steps and handrails. (With advance notice, we can provide a local person to help with carrying your luggage up the hill.) Casa Iguana is a traditional palapa with two floors. There is a small stairway to the second floor, where there is a magnificent view of Yelapa bay and the beaches. There are two main beds on the second level, plus a comfortable padded bench for youngster. On the ground floor there is comfortable L-shaped 'banco' couch that can sleep two. All sleeping spaces have mosquito nets. Please note that there are no walls or windows in our traditional palapa style house, so you get to experience all of nature. And the bathroom and shower are in a lovely outside bathhouse in the garden, 10 steps from the back door. Living in Casa Iguana is wonderful, but not for those who need total isolation between guests. The waterside with comfortable sandy swimming beaches is just 7-10 minutes down the hill. The big Yelapa main beach and its restaurants are a 20-minute walk through the town, while the waterfall is only 15 minutes from Casa Mariposa. The best restaurants are in the village itself as the beach caters to the daily tourists with predictable Mexican seaside fare. The village restaurants are exceptional and reasonably priced. We're often seduced away from cooking at home because fresh blue corn tortillas tacos with crab, marlin, steak, etc. are available at Los Abuelos -- and the grandmothers are cooking them right in front of you! Or if you prefer: great BBQ chicken and ribs, or today’s sea catch cooked 3 different ways, are served up at Pollo Bollo, a village icon of open air eating. In fact, everything in Yelapa is open air because the air is so lovely and fresh that there is rarely a time when being indoors is preferable. If you are traveling with your family or friends and want to cook something at home, local stores carry a good selection of provisions and cater to American tastes during the high season. The linens and serving-ware are sufficient to host 10 people for dinner at Casa Iguana.
