Akitsu is a guesthouse and shop in a traditional kominka-style farmhouse, tucked away in a small woodcarving village in Shiga, Japan. Staying at Akitsu is an opportunity to experience a different pace — To breathe fresh mountain air, put your feet in an ice-cold stream. To wake up late, to the smell of fresh coffee. The space Akitsu Ryokan is a private guesthouse featuring a single studio accommodation. Guests enjoy exclusive use of the entire second floor, while the first floor is home to the Akitsu Shop. Guest access The closest station to Kaminyū is Samegai (2.8km away), but most guests arrive via Maibara Station (8.6km away), which is on the Shinkansen line—perfect for travelling from Kyoto (18mins), Osaka (34mins), or Tokyo (2hrs 15mins). We offer a complimentary train shuttle for accommodation guests. Other things to note If you're thinking about hiring a car: You don’t need a car, but it’ll give you more freedom to explore Kaminyū and beyond!
