Hidden Haven

Find slower days and sweeter nights in this classic farmhouse tucked away off a quiet road in river country. The beauty of the surrounding pastures, rolling fields and wooded ravine and the simplicity of homestead life make it easy to exhale and unwind. Spread out for football, stargazing, or s’mores and take in a sunset from the front porch rockers. Restaurants, winery or brewery, coffee or ice cream, shopping the historic downtown, or walking the river trail— only a few minutes away! The space Hidden Haven has been named for the restoring effect of its peaceful and quiet surroundings and views. The 2800 sq. ft. three story home provides comfortable sleeping for 12 guests. Sleeping arrangements include a king master bedroom upstairs with an ensuite full bathroom, three queen bedrooms upstairs that share a full bathroom, and a king bedroom downstairs and double bed (set up in the downstairs living room upon request) that share a 3/4 bathroom. The main floor includes a fully stocked kitchen, cozy living room, two dining rooms, office space, half bath, laundry and mudroom. Enjoy outdoor living with a covered front porch, spacious back deck, Blackstone griddle and charcoal grill, large yard, fire pit area, yard games, outdoor sports, tire swing and kids fort. Conveniences include high speed internet, a 55” tv, an attached two stall garage, the proximity of many options for food and fun in nearby Cannon Falls (7-10 min), easy access to the twin cities, and the area’s many outdoor attractions, including Lake Byllesby, the Cannon River, Cannon Valley Trail, multiple golf clubs, state snowmobile trail, Welch Mill Ski Resort, regional and state parks and more. Guest access The entire home and yard are available to guests except a few locked storage areas and the locked shed and camper. Pastures should only be accessed when we are present for daily chores - just let us know in advance if you’d like to join us and we will do our best to coordinate a time! Crop land and wooded ravine are not part of the property and, therefore, not for guest use. Other things to note We have 3 katahdin sheep (sometimes with lambs), 2 small kunekune pigs (sometimes with piglets), and 23 chickens in the fenced pastures around the house. We also have 2 sweet barn cats (strictly outdoors), one shy and one who now loves to come say hello. Please let us know if you would like us to keep him contained in the barn during the time you are staying. Or if you would enjoy having him out we have a kennel near the back garage door if he needs his own space while you are eating or for any other reason. He often lays on the front porch, enjoys being pet, and is up to date with vaccines. Someone will be briefly visiting pastures once a day to do animal chores, parking at the end of the driveway. If you’d like to join us for chores just let us know in advance and we will do our best to coordinate a time with you, weather permitting. We love sharing the homestead experience — come meet the animals, explore the pastures, or collect eggs in the barn! We just ask that you refrain from entering pastures unless we are there. The house is on a couple miles of well maintained gravel and very passable with any type of vehicle. There are certain times of the year that the road might have some bumps or softness. In the rare case that roads are a concern (ice, blizzards) we make sure to communicate that and make generous accommodations for any delay. Even during storms, the gravel roads are usually cleared and sanded/salted within hours of when the larger roads are finished.
