The space Inside The Depot Step into open-concept living where history meets comfort. The Depot has been thoughtfully designed as one large, flowing space true to its 1914 origins—divided by tall floor-to-ceiling curtains that create flexible zones while maintaining an airy, connected feel. We’re located in the heart of Greenback—a small, one-red-light town full of local character. The post office sits beside us, and across the street you’ll find the historic Greenback Diner and The Greenback Museum. Because The Depot sits right off the main road, you will hear some road noise inside. It’s part of small-town life, and we’ve done our best to preserve the charm while providing modern comfort. ⸻ Lower Level • Two spacious king beds • Full kitchen with modern appliances and everything you need to cook and gather (this was once the original ticketing office!) • Large living area with an 85-inch Smart TV • Extra-deep sofas — each wide enough for an adult to sleep comfortably (roughly twin size) • Dining area with two separate tables and seating for up to 13 guests ⸻ Upper Level • One queen bed and one twin bed • Cozy living area with the second 85-inch Smart TV • Game zone featuring foosball, jumbo Connect Four, tic-tac-toe, and a speaker with microphone for karaoke nights ⸻ Bathrooms All bathrooms are located toward the back of the building, preserving the open flow of the main space while offering privacy and easy access. ⸻ Laundry & Utility Room Conveniently located between the bathrooms, this area includes: • Washer and dryer • Extra cleaning supplies • Rollaway beds and an air mattress stored for guest use ⸻ Additional Sleeping Options We provide two twin rollaway beds and one twin air mattress for extra guests. We kindly ask that guest stay off of the loading docks on the East side of the building where our HVAC units are located. Other things to note About The Depot’s Historic Character The Depot is a true piece of Tennessee history — rebuilt in 1914 after the original structure was lost to fire. With more than a century of stories in its walls, it comes with both authentic charm and a few quirks! You may notice the gentle creak of the floors, natural imperfections in the wood, or the settling sounds typical of a building that has stood the test of time. The metal roof also expands and contracts with temperature changes, occasionally creaking or cracking — all part of The Depot’s character. These details are what make this landmark so special. We invite you to learn more about its history on our Wikipedia page and see how The Depot has shaped Greenback through the decades. Please note that The Depot sits along a busy road in the heart of town, so there may be some road noise, particularly during the day and early evening. Many guests feel it adds to the small-town atmosphere, but if you’re a light sleeper, we recommend bringing earplugs. Because of the historic roofline and large eaves, birds occasionally build nests despite our best efforts. We use humane deterrents and perform regular maintenance to minimize this, though you may notice some natural bird activity during your stay. Our goal is to preserve the authentic spirit of this century-old depot—a registered National Historic Site—while ensuring every guest enjoys a comfortable, memorable stay. Thank you for appreciating the unique beauty of East Tennessee’s living history.
