Description
Our cabin provides comfort, privacy and a convenient base for exploring nearby Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and the surrounding area. A historic ice house dating back to the early 1900s, the cabin has been renovated to feature a cozy loft, bathroom and comfortable indoor and outdoor sitting areas. Nestled in a quiet, wooded setting with easy access to hiking trails, paddling, and local shops, it’s the perfect retreat for couples, solo travelers, or small families seeking a peaceful getaway. The space This charming cabin was originally built in the early 1900s as an ice house serving a local farm and the surrounding neighborhood, long before refrigeration came to the Adirondacks. Thoughtfully renovated, the cabin now includes a modern electrical system, cozy loft sleeping area, and a full bathroom. Recent updates provide added comfort, including free wireless internet, a brand new full-size mattress, a smartphone charging station, and a kitchenette outfitted with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and electric kettle—perfect for simple meal prep. The sleeping loft features a comfortable full-size bed, while the main sitting area offers flexibility for additional overnight guests who bring sleeping bags; a folding cot is also available. Both indoor and outdoor dining and workspace options are available, including a private table and chairs for reading, writing, or working remotely. Step outside to a peaceful private porch overlooking Ricketson Pond, where you’ll find a hammock strung between the trees and opportunities to spot wildlife or launch a paddle. Tucked into a quiet, wooded setting, this private and cozy Adirondack cabin offers a unique blend of rustic charm and modern convenience—the ideal home base for exploring the vibrant culture, outdoor adventures, and small-town charm of Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and beyond. Guest access The cabin is connected to our farmhouse by a covered walkway but offers complete privacy with its own separate entrance. Guests have full access to the cabin, porch, and outdoor areas surrounding Ricketson Pond. On-site parking is available just steps from the entrance for your convenience. We’re happy to provide local guidebooks, trail maps, and recommendations upon request to help you make the most of your stay in the Adirondacks. Other things to note Guests are welcome to explore the neighborhood, including the beautiful open fields that surround the property. We’re located on a peaceful, quiet road—perfect for a morning stroll or a relaxed evening outside. Just a short walk (about 500 feet) from the cabin is the Shamrock Bar and Grill, a one-of-a-kind local pub with great food and friendly vibes. It’s a wonderful place for dinner, but please note they are only open on Wednesdays and Fridays. One of our personal favorite things to do in the area is to take a walk on the Bloomingdale Bog Trail, located just 2 miles from the house. It’s a wide, flat rail trail surrounded by boreal forest and open wetland views—absolutely magical for an evening walk before sunset. It’s a peaceful, restorative spot we often recommend to guests looking to unwind and connect with nature.
