Cosy hut stunning valley views on forest hillside
Description
Enjoy the gorgeous views over the river valley towards an iron-age fort. A cosy self-contained Shepherd's hut with own access, located in a forest setting behind our main cottage in a hamlet on a river in SE-Cornwall. Bodmin moor, Dartmoor and the coast are within easy reach. The hut contains a kitchen, shower room, a raised double bed, a desk and a sitting area. The toilet is outdoors. Outside, there are seating areas, a BBQ and a firepit to enjoy those evenings under clear skies. The space This is a self-contained shepherd's hut we built in our backgarden, in a small hamlet. To access it, it has 3 steps up (without bannisters) to the French doors entrance. Inside: Inside you will find space to put your shoes, and coats next to the doors, a small Hobbit wood burner, a kitchen which contains everything you would reasonably need, with a small breakfast bar. The kitchen tap is cold water only, but water can be heated in the kettle. There is a 2-pit induction hob, a small microwave and a small undercounter fridge/freezer. Next to the kitchen is a small bathroom with an electric shower (no toilet). Opposite the doors is a desk/working space, and then a seating area with 1 fixed bench and 1 moveable bench, and a pull-out table (from underneath the bed). The bed (140x200 cm) is raised and a small stepstool is provided to ease the access. At the bedhead is a wardrobe for clothes. The hut can be heated with the small woodburner, underfloor heating and there is a heated towel rail in the bathroom. 3 of the 5 windows have mosquito netting (but not the doors). The bamboo rollers (curtains) have white cotton behind it, which will block out some but not all light. Outside: Outside is the composting toilet, which is emptied and cleaned at every changeover, has a fan taking odours outside and does not smell. There is a seating area directly outside the hut and a firepit with seats slightly lower down. I am growing a small selection of fresh herbs for you to use. You will have access to the whole of our backgarden (a mixture of apple trees, forest, vegetable patch and flower borders) during your stay, and our 2 friendly dogs (Border Collies) might come over to investigate. The views from our backgarden (as it is uphill) across the valley and river are gorgeous, there are plenty of superb walking trails around, the nearest towns all have decent size supermarkets and I will supply you with a list of local pubs, attractions and sights. Please note the BBQ is charcoles, which are not supplied. Also, the hut is located close to an A-road, so some traffic noice can be heard outside the hut. Guest access Parking: there is no private parking available, but you can park your car on a layby on the A-road, cross the road, walk uphill on tiny footpath (not paved) for about 40 m to get to the front door of the hut. If arriving by public transport, there is a bus stop on the same layby. There is also a public footpath from the nearest town to our property, a brisk but nice downhill walk of about 30 min. Please be aware that the local bus only has a frequency of every 2-3h and does not run after 18.08 from Callington. If you just want to relax and do local walks you will be fine, but if you intend to explore further away public transport might be limiting. Some takeaways will deliver to our house, but not all. There is no shop or pub in our tiny hamlet, and there are no taxis. If you come by public transport, I am happy for you to have groceries delivered to our home on your arrival day, I will bring it up to the hut before your arrival. Contact me about this option. Other things to note *The kitchentap is cold water only. *There is no TV, but the hut does have wifi. Mobile signal in this valley is sketchy if at all. *Being located in the vincinity of an A-road there is some road noise during the day but much less in evening and night. However, in the hut this is barely noticeable. *The hut has no toilet inside, there is an composting toilet outside, but we have also supplied a camping bucket toilet for night-time, if needed.
