Description
A discrete and well maintained hideaway at the end of a private driveway, with country views and the River Cam running past the window. Riverside Retreat is located in the picturesque village of Ickleton, approximately 11 miles south of Cambridge and 5 miles north of Saffron Walden. Duxford Air Museum is 3.4 miles to the west. Ickleton has a local shop providing daily essentials. There are numerous public footpaths, and a nature reserve nearby. Welcoming pubs and cafes are a short trip away. The space Riverside Retreat offers a spacious first-floor flat just next to the River Cam in the village of Ickleton. The living room has a sofa, tv, and a workspace. There are two double bedrooms, each with a clothes rail and set of drawers. The kitchen is fully equipped, with electric cooker (oven + hob), microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, and fridge-freezer (kindly note we do not provide dish washer tablets or washing powder). The bathroom has a toilet, shower, and bath. An ironing board and iron, and a hoover are all available. Towels are provided. For entertainment, an aged, well-loved pool table is available, along with an XBox and some classic old games. A selection of DVDs can be found in the bookcase. The DVDs can be watched using the XBox. Broadband internet is available. Please note that there is OPEN WATER just next to Riverside Retreat (please see photos). Hence, the patio area outside Riverside Retreat is NOT suitable for unsupervised children, or anyone else who might be at risk of falling into the water. There is NO SECURE BARRIER between the patio and the river. A small table with 4 chairs is available to be used in the patio area. Please also note that Riverside Retreat is a first-floor flat that is accessed from the ground floor via a set of stairs (please see photos). There is a stairgate at the top of the stairs that you are welcome to use, if needed. For safety, the kitchen has a fire extinguisher and fire blanket, and the lounge is fitted with a smoke/carbon monoxide alarm. Parking for 2 cars is available outside Riverside Retreat. The parking is accessed along a long driveway with the entrance on Mill Lane. Be aware that there is a steep slope/ramp just before you get to Riverside Retreat. Please approach the slope/ramp with caution: we recommend driving slowly. If you think your car is unsuitable for driving down the slope/ramp (for example, due to low suspension or spoilers etc.), alternative parking is available. Riverside Retreat has central heating, with a thermostatic control in the living room. The Cambridge to Liverpool Street train line runs close to property, and some train noise may be heard. The nearest train stations are Great Chesterford (1.3 miles to the south) and Whittlesford (4.1 miles to the north). The Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton is a ~5-minute walk away through the Wetlands Nature Reserve. The owners of Riverside Retreat live next door. Please note that there is a dog and 2 friendly cats who may come to say hello! Guest access A key to Riverside Retreat is available in a secure lockbox. The code for the lockbox will sent 24 hours prior to arrival. Guests are welcome to come and go as they please. Other things to note Please note the comments about OPEN WATER just next to Riverside Retreat. Check-in is after 3 pm on the day of arrival. Check-out is 10 am on the day of departure. No dogs or other pets are permitted (sorry- we have our own furry friends!). No parties and no filming please.
