You can be in the medieval city of Norwich in 20 minutes and here you will find the finest standing example of a Norman castle in the whole of the UK along with a magnificent Norman cathedral, various museums, theatres, art galleries and a full range of leisure activities. The city boasts numerous lanes and alleys full of quirky shops as well as two indoor malls, many cafés and fine dining restaurants. The surrounding countryside provides endless opportunities for cycling and walking. For a change of pace, head to Thetford Forest and High Lodge, a recreational site with walks and cycle routes, along with more challenging mountain bike trails and the ’Go Ape’ treetop adventures. In just 30 minutes you can be at Wroxham, the gateway to the Norfolk Broads, where you can charter a day boat or join an organised tour. The North Norfolk coast can be reached with a 40-minute drive, or you can explore the east coast at picturesque Winterton, where you can see grey seals in their natural environment, and Great Yarmouth, where you will discover all the fun of fair and glorious beaches. Head south to Southwold with its Victorian pier, or even a spot of crabbing at Walberswick, all under 30 miles from the cottages. Add in several National Trust properties, excellent museums, birdwatching, zoos, golf and fishing, and you will soon see why this part of Norfolk is so popular with guests who return year after year.
