Description

Escape to a lovingly restored 1930s railway carriage set in the peaceful Warwickshire countryside. The 4.50 from Paddington is a one-of-a-kind stay with rustic charm and everything you need to unwind — from books and gramophone records, countryside views and a wildflower paddock. Walk to Draycote Water, or explore the wildlife-rich Lias Line just minutes from the door. Dog-friendly, with good Wi-Fi. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, sailors, and anyone who wants to experience a simpler life. The space Our lovingly restored 1930s railway goods wagon is now reborn as a peaceful countryside hideaway in Warwickshire. Perched above the former Leamington–Rugby railway line, this unique retreat blends rustic character, industrial detail, and vintage glam with wildlife, wide skies, and rich local history. Once part of a working freight line, our carriage now enjoys a slower pace of life. We’ve taken a lot of time and care restoring it using reclaimed materials and vintage finds, to honour its heritage and offer something truly special. We’ve poured care into every detail, and we genuinely hope you’ll like it. Whether you’re sipping tea with the doors open, playing an old record on the gramophone, or spotting buzzards from the paddock, this is your space to slow down, unplug, and reconnect with a gentler rhythm. We want you to enjoy every minute of it. The carriage sits above the historic Leamington–Rugby line, which opened in 1851. For over a century, the track carried passengers and goods through Warwickshire, including livestock, farm produce, and building materials from nearby villages like Marton, Dunchurch and Birdingbury. From the 1930s to the 1950s, Hill Farm residents would have seen steam engines passing below and heard the whistles of the trains. The line closed in the mid-20th century, and its path is now part of the Sustrans Lias Line — a peaceful walking and cycling route just five minutes from the carriage. Wildflowers, butterflies, and birds now line the old tracks. Inside • Cosy, studio-style layout with a raised platform bed (1.4m high with ladder access, not suitable for guests with mobility issues) • Kitchenette with hob, combi microwave oven, fridge, and cooking essentials • Armchairs, vintage lighting, reclaimed pine cladding • Full bathroom with flushing plumbed toilet, electric Triton Envi shower, basin, hairdryer, and upcycled details • Good Wi-Fi, welcome pack, and personal touches throughout • Lots of books and games, and in the spirit of the 1930s - no TV! Outside • Your own wildflower paddock with table, chairs and BBQ • Gorgeous countryside views; look out for deer, foxes, buzzards, hares, kites • Walk to Draycote Water for lakeside trails or sailing • Close to Whitefields Golf Club, Red Banger food truck, and The Friendly Inn pub • Bourton Hall wedding venue is 15–20 mins’ walk We would love to welcome guests for their stay, but you're also welcome to let yourselves in using the key safe by the carriage. Pets • Dog-friendly for small–medium dogs (please contact us if you have a bigger dog - they will probably be comfortable, but we can explain how much space there is!). We kindly ask that dogs be vaccinated, wormed, never left unattended, and kept under control due to nearby livestock (farmers may shoot dogs harassing sheep) Entry • Check-in: 4pm | Check-out: 11am - but please do ask if you need a later check out as it is sometimes possible for us to arrange this. • Extra vehicles or caravans welcome by arrangement. Guest access Guests will have sole use of the carriage during their stay, along with the garden outside the carriage and the wildflower paddock outside the front of the property. Other things to note Unfortunately the carriage isn't suitable for infants or guests with mobility needs due to the steps up to the carriage platform, and the ladder access to the raised bed. Check out time is 11am, but please do ask if you need a later check out as it is sometimes possible for us to arrange this!
