The space Set within 25 acres of farm, gardens, orchards, meadows, and woodland just outside Canterbury, our family-run countryside property offers a peaceful base in Patrixbourne, part of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Escape to the countryside with a stay at our working smallholding, with pigs, chickens, sheep, mini ponies, organic kitchen gardens, apple and cherry orchards, berry patches, and greenhouses. There is always a project underway or an animal that wants to say hello! There are 25 acres for you to roam and get lost in. Take a picnic to the wildflower meadows or read your book on a bench by the ponds. We live on this land and farm it to feed our family. The land is also part of a rewilding conservation effort, so we're trying our best to farm it in a sustainable and environmentally conscious manner. We live here as well with our young family, so we've set the place up for our girls and your kids to enjoy too – including a full playset and garden games a plenty. For the adults, we're happy to share our on-site gym as well. Beyond the farm, we are perfectly situated for you to spend a day in historic Canterbury, with its world-famous Cathedral and high-speed train to London, or head for the coast — Whitstable, Margate, Deal, and the White Cliffs of Dover are all close by, with easy access to the ferry for France. Explore England’s flourishing wine scene with local vineyard tours and tastings. Above all, enjoy the simple pleasures of the countryside: rambling walks, good pubs, and the beauty of the landscape all around. Guest access Guests have full private use of Wisteria Lodge and its wisteria-draped dining terrace. You’re warmly invited to explore and enjoy the whole property — stroll the orchards, meadows, and ponds, or enjoy the pizza oven, fire pit, petanque, croquet, and the putting green. These areas are shared, but only between our family and you. Other things to note On dogs and livestock As we keep a selection of animals on our land, we ask that you keep your dogs on leads near the livestock to avoid spooking them. There are areas where your dogs are welcome to enjoy time off lead as well. Outdoor Pizza Oven Our outdoor pizza oven is available for guests to enjoy by prior arrangement. Because it needs to be lit safely in advance and brought up to temperature, it is not a self-service amenity. We are happy to prepare it for you, provide the tools, and give a short safety/use briefing so you can enjoy a relaxed wood-fired evening during your stay. One basket of wood is included.
