Hoot Suite | Modern 1-Bedroom + Wood-Fired Hot Tub

A light-filled artist’s studio turned minimalist one-bedroom hideaway on four acres of island forest, with a full kitchen and a wood-fired hot tub. The Hoot Suite is a private space for couples or solo travelers to rest, create, and reconnect. It’s a short ferry ride from Seattle or Tacoma, then about a 15 minute drive from the dock. Explore the island’s pristine trails, beaches, and a number of excellent restaurants, then end the day with a soak in the wood-fired hot tub under the stars. The space Named after our resident barred owl, The Hoot Suite began as a garage and artist studio and was reimagined into a design-forward retreat on 4 acres of Pacific Northwest forest. Black concrete floors and a warm wood ceiling anchor the space, while large windows and skylights keep the forest close in every season. Getting Here: Vashon is ferry-only, and that’s by design. Stepping off the boat feels like stepping into a slower, simpler time. Take the ferry from Fauntleroy in West Seattle or Point Defiance in Tacoma, then it’s a 15 to 20 minute drive through forested roads to the suite. Living Room & Dining: Sink into the couch and stream a movie on the smart TV, or pull up to the dining table for a quiet meal in. High-speed WiFi throughout. Full Kitchen: Fully stocked for anything from a quick breakfast to a home-cooked dinner. A Tchibo bean-to-brew machine makes coffee or espresso, stocked with beans from Vashon Island Coffee Roasterie. In summer, an outdoor BBQ grill is available on the deck. Welcome Extras: Bagged teas, local goodies, and homemade scones baked fresh for your arrival. Bedroom: Cozy and quiet, with a skylight above the bed for falling asleep under the stars or waking to soft morning light. Bathroom: A floor-to-ceiling tiled walk-in shower with a rain showerhead, a guest favorite. Turkish cotton towels and quality toiletries. Forgot something? Just ask. Goodland Wood-Fired Soaking Tub (hot September through June, cold plunge in summer): The Goodland is a guest-powered, wood-fired hot tub fueled by fallen timber from the property. Heating it up yourself is part of the experience. Getting it up to soaking temperature takes about two hours the first time, and there’s something genuinely satisfying about stoking the fire. Never tended a fire? No problem. We provide detailed instructions and a how-to video, and we’re available for questions. The tub is drained and cleaned between every guest and never treated with chemicals, so the water is always fresh. In July and August, it’s a refreshing cold plunge. In the rare event of a burn ban during hot tub season, the tub may be limited to a cold plunge, and we’ll be in touch ahead of time. Cedar Deck: The expansive cedar deck is the heart of the outdoor space, with comfortable seating for morning coffee, evening stargazing, yoga, or watching the forest settle in for the night. You'll have full access to the expansive cedar deck, ideal for morning coffee or stargazing, and the private, fenced outdoor area just outside the bedroom. Other things to note Arrival & Check-In The Hoot Suite is attached to our main residence, where we live full-time. It has a separate entrance, privacy fencing, and dedicated parking, and most guests say they rarely see us. Parking & Visitors The Hoot Suite sleeps 2 guests, with a dedicated parking spot for one vehicle, up to a full-size pickup truck or van. Additional vehicles can park for free in the upper lot at the north end ferry dock for up to 1 week. Hot Tub Notes The Goodland is wood-fired September through June, except during Washington state or county burn bans. In July and August, and during level 2 burn bans, it is available as a cold plunge only. The firebox is stocked with kindling and paper on arrival. Each 2-night stay includes enough firewood for one full soak, and possibly a reheat the next morning depending on outside temperatures. Additional firewood is $20. Traveling Without a Car? The Hoot Suite is about 7 miles from both ferry terminals, 2 miles from the nearest bus stop, and 3 miles from town. Uber service on the island is limited, so please book a local taxi or shuttle ahead of time to avoid waiting at the ferry.
