Description

Secluded Solar-Powered A-Frame Cabin with Loft, Wrap-around Deck, Solar Roof Gazebo, Private Dock & Unmatched Views The space We are sharing our Borongan City vacation home for other families and travelers to enjoy. This property is located approximately 10 MINUTES BY TRICYCLE from the city center and approximately 5 MINUTES WALK from the paved road of Sitio Cankusipe, Barangay Sabang North. ---------- IMPORTANT: We have a 32,000 watts/32 kw battery storage. However, this is not enough to support the two air conditioners set below 22 degrees Celsius overnight and simultaneously run all other appliances. Please set the two air conditioners at 22 degrees Celsius or higher, turn off/unplug all the appliances that are not in use, and turn on the two stand fans and air cooler -- this will keep the Cabin cooler. We would love to keep Cabin ni Apoy Maria off-grid. Please help us by using the available resources mindfully. ---------- Escape to serenity in our off-grid, three-story A-frame cabin with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, tucked deep in the forest with breathtaking river and forest views. Cradled by coconut and tropical trees, you’ll fall asleep to the sounds of nature, and wake to sunbeams filtering through the trees. This off-grid, hidden gem offers the perfect blend of seclusion, comfort, and nature—ideal for families, couples, creatives, and digital nomads seeking peace with just the right touch of connection. Jungle-like Backdrop: Your off-grid escape begins with a ~150-meter walk from the paved road of Sitio Cankusipe, Barangay Sabang North, leading you through a lush, green jungle path that sets the tone for your stay. As you make your way to the cabin, you'll be surrounded by the sounds of tropical birds, rustling leaves, and the occasional wildlife calls echoing through the canopy---slow down and listen to the sound of nature. The short hike is part of the magic—a gentle, slightly elevated trail and a bamboo bridge under the shade of towering coconut trees, ferns, and thick greenery. With every step, the noise of the outside world fades, replaced by the rhythm of nature. Book now to experience raw beauty, privacy, and peace—just you, the cabin, the trees, and the river. Please do not change our Wi-Fi network and password. We use this to monitor our solar power control system. 7. There will be an easy Math involved to live in this cabin due to our 8 kw inverter capacity. All appliances are electric and have different wattages. You can run 3-4 major appliances simultaneously at their minimum setting. Example, one air conditioner, cooktop, and water heater. We have lived here comfortably and have enjoyed doing this easy Math. 🙂 8. There are no shades, blinds, drapes or curtains on all windows, except the bedroom window. We want to leave them this way. 🙂 If you are having a hard time falling asleep or wanting to sleep longer we have eye masks available for use. We wash these eye masks every after check out. 9. Cabin ni Apoy Maria is approximately 150 meters away from the paved road of Sitio Cankusipe. Expect a 5-minute walk/hike from the road. Just a heads-up, there is a short downhill/uphill trail close to the road and a bamboo bridge close to the cabin. In between these two, majority of the trail is flat. You will be walking on a trail that is surrounded with lush greeneries and will hear occasional wildlife calls echoing through the canopy -- slow down and listen to the sound of nature. 10. Cabin ni Apoy Maria is in a jungle-like/forest setting. Expect some bugs and insects entering the cabin. Please do not leave the windows and doors open at night as insects are attracted to bright lights. 11. Our cousin lives next door with his dogs. Expect some welcoming barks. (Believe me, they are just excited to see you!) My cousin has access to the back and the path/trail leading to the paved road. 12. Make sure you are stocked up for the night, or even better, for the entire duration of your stay. Cabin ni Apoy Maria is in a secluded place. While the cabin is well-lit, the trail going to the road does not have lights. If night errands are unavoidable, there are flashlights in the cabin that you can use. 13. We have a "mini sari-sari (variety) store" in the cabin to cover your missing essentials. Prices are posted and can be paid with cash, GCash, or through Airbnb at check out. DISCLOSURE: - Cabin ni Apoy Maria has no TV, karaoke/videoke, washer/dryer (for clothes), and dishwasher. Guest access Guests have access to ALL fenced parts of the property, except for these three rooms: 1. Ground floor storage - this is where we store our mess 🙂 2. Electrical room - this is where we store our solar power control system (high voltage batteries and inverter), and a standby generator 3. Main floor storage (linen room) - this is where we store our clean linens, sheets, and other essentials Other things to note Eastern Samar is a province in the Philippines located in the Eastern Visayas region (Capital City: Borongan). Stretching along the eastern edge of the Philippines, it faces the vast Pacific Ocean, which shapes much of its character: long white-sand beaches, rugged cliffs, rock formations, and surf-pounded shores that feel wild rather than polished. Must-visit/try places: - Ando Island, Borongan, Eastern Samar -- a beautiful, laid-back tropical island shores with white sand beaches and clear Pacific waters -- perfect for swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, and exploring nature (20-minute boat ride from Cabin ni Apoy Maria) - Calicoan Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar -- one of the top surf spots in the Visayas, attracting surfers from across the Philippines (2.5-hour car ride) - Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge Park, Basey, Samar -- a massive limestone arch that spans the Sohoton River forming a dramatic natural connection between two forest-clad ridges (4-hour car ride) ----- Getting to Cabin ni Apoy Maria: Public tricycle and private motorcycle are the main transportations used in Borongan City. Since this place is secluded, please let us know if you will need a ride and at what day and time. We can contact you to local tricycle drivers who can pick you up on the street. OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINES: Fly to Manila or Cebu City (best route). From Cebu, take a propeller plane (Philippine Airlines) from Cebu to Borongan City. Flights to/from Cebu/Borongan is once on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday only. BORONGAN CITY: If you prefer to do a commute/adventure on your own. Here are some tips: From Borongan airport, there is a free city bus that will take you to the downtown area. This will be a 20-minute ride. From there, you can hail a tricycle and ask the driver to take you to Sabang North, Sitio Cankusipe at Cabin ni Apoy Maria. (You might need a separate tricycle for your luggage). This will be a 10-minute ride. NOTE: You can directly take a tricycle from the airport to Cabin ni Apoy Maria. However, there's no guarantee that the tricycles at the airport will accept passengers as they already made pre-arranged pick ups. OR We can help you contact a local tricycle driver early on. This tricycle will pick you up at the airport and drive you straight to Cabin ni Apoy Maria. This will be a 20-minute ride. OR A pre-arranged tricycle pick up at Borongan Airport to Sabang South Fishport (20-minute ride), then a motorized boat ride from the fishport to the floating dock, just in front of Cabin ni Apoy Maria (5-minute ride). My family, especially our kids, loves doing this tricycle plus boat commute! All fares go straight to local drivers. A great way of supporting hardworking locals!
