Lovely home to rent in Kyle of Lochalsh, near Skye

Description

Our home is on the mainland, just 2 minutes drive to the Skye Bridge & walking distance (5 minutes) of the train station & bus stop so it is a great base for exploring the whole of the Skye & Lochalsh area and is more affordable than many options on the island. Perfect for 2 or 4 people but can accommodate 6. We are happy for 6 guests to stay but please be aware that it will be a wee bit of a squeeze. We're sorry that we don't welcome pets (due to my allergies). The space We have a living room, small kitchen, single bedroom (with additional single sofa bed) and WC (accessed via the bedroom) downstairs. We have 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The bathroom has a bath & shower over the bath. Guest access Guests have access to the whole property. Other things to note Our property is not a purpose built holiday home, it is a traditional family home. We don't have a view but it is on a lovely, quiet terrace. I love listening to the birds singing when I'm there! We do have a smart TV with Sky in the living room but no TVs in the bedrooms. We don't have a dishwasher and we do ask that guests wash their own dishes. We do have a washing machine but no tumble dryer. (We do have a drying rack). Our kitchen is too wee for a dishwasher & tumble dryer but it is a lovely new kitchen. Our bathroom is also small but is new too and has a bath as well as shower (over the bath). Our heating system is storage heating but we also have electric heaters in each room. It is a cosy house but we also have lots of blankets for guests who may not be used to the Skye & Lochalsh weather! We have considered and reflected all of the above information in our rates, charging considerably less than many other holiday lets in the area. Parking is free but is street parking. There is always parking available but we do ask that guests don't park in front of our neighbours houses if for any reason you can't park in front of our property or have more than one car. In this situation, we would ask that you park towards the bottom of the terrace so that our neighbours are not inconvenienced. There is a small turning area at the top of the terrace which may not be suitable for large vehicles. Our home is within walking distance (5 mins) of the train station and bus stop but our home is on a hill so may not be suitable for everyone and there are steps up to the door and stairs inside, leading to the bathroom & two of the bedrooms. There is also a step down to the downstairs loo. We provide all bedding & towels. We also provide a small selection of basic toiletries which guests are most welcome to use but if you have any specific requirements, please do bring your own. Our kitchen is fully equipped with everything we think you'd need to cook a meal and we also provide some cupboard basics for your stay and a few fridge basics for your arrival, which means you can make yourself a Skye Coffee Roasters coffee and enjoy it with a piece of homemade shortbread ("usually" supplied!) when you first arrive and get settled. There is a great convenience store (at the Post Office) and a large Co-op, both within walking distance. We also provide a hairdryer, iron & ironing board and a drawer of handy bits for your convenience. Children are most welcome to stay but our home may not be suitable for very young children as we are not able to provide a cot or high chair and we do not have any safety measures in place - no stair gates, no window locks, no drawer or cupboard locks etc. Our first ever guests checked in at the beginning of July and already lots of people ask us if we live in the area or just own a house here. This home was built in the 1930s and my great aunt moved in with her family (the first and only family to live in it) as a toddler and she lived here until she was 80. I was born & brought up in the village too. This became mine & my husband's first home when we got married. I have so many happy childhood memories here. After a few years, we moved just 15 minutes away so that we could live next door to our business. We had a new born baby but I still had work commitments, so living next door made those early years much more manageable for me. It probably could be said that we're making a housing crisis worse by not selling our first home. We have too many friends who were born & brought up here and now can't live here due to the housing situation in the area. As parents to young children, our hope is that we can keep this family home to ensure that, in the future, our children have the choice to live where they grew up. As hosts, our aim is to provide somewhere comfortable and nice to stay, at as reasonable a price as possible - in an increasingly expensive area. Our house is not budget pricing - it's not budget accommodation. It is a nicely presented 3 bedroom house and we take great care preparing it for our guests. But there are only a very small number of holiday lets in the area in the same price range. The majority are considerably more expensive. We don't bump our price up for peak visitor months. We try to keep our price fair at all times, although we will lower it for short notice bookings in the quiet, winter months. We want people to be able to experience our home area at a reasonable cost and leave feeling like they've had a great experience and wanting to return to the the area we're fortune to call home.
