Who we think it is suitable for... Families and groups of friends looking for a stylish yet comfortable base in a traditional Cornish village About a holiday in the Golant area... Lying about 3 miles upriver from Fowey, Golant is a pretty waterside village. Much loved as a stop off on a river trip or kayaking expedition, the village is in a stunning position hugging the banks of the river, the views here are tremendous. During the summer months the river and village are busy with boating activity but in the quieter winter months a great variety of birdlife can be seen on the water including egrets, cormorants, herons and kingfishers. The village has a local pub serving real ales it also has regular entertainment including live music and a beer festival. Further afield the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and National Trust Lanhydrock House offer a wonderful day out. Nearby Fowey also offers a lovely day out, with independent shops and eateries it has a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. When you visit Fowey, we highly recommend spending some time on the river. The easiest and most enjoyable way to do this is to take the passenger ferry across the harbour to Polruan. The ferry weaves in and out of boats of all shapes and sizes, making for a delightful experience. Pleasure boats depart regularly from the town quay steps for longer trips, taking you up the river on a guided tour. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a guided seafari, canoe, kayak or SUP trip on the water. This is such a great way to observe the plentiful river wildlife and wooded streams!
