The cottage in the Banditelle

Among the Maremma hills, at the foot of the picturesque village of Civitella Marittima, stands La casina nelle banditelle. An ancient 19th-century farm, surrounded by the greenery of the pastures, or "banditelle", which today house an olive grove and a few rows of vineyards. The cottage in the Banditelle smells of wild fennel, September grapes, olives crushed on the nets in October, and wildflowers in spring. The sky full of stars and the evening concert of crickets will give you a good night's sleep. The space It is not just any farm, but a house that holds precious memories. It seemed like yesterday when our two little girls climbed the olive trees, played in the shade of the oak, dived into the water and, returning, left the footprints of wet feet on the terracotta floor. Every time, returning to the cottage fills our hearts with emotions and now we want to share this corner of serenity with you, hoping that you can fall in love with it, just as we did twenty years ago. Our philosophy is based on respect for the authenticity of this place and the nature that surrounds it. It is no coincidence that in the olive grove and vineyard we minimize plant treatments and always use natural products. We will occasionally cross paths in the fields to take care of our crops, but always with advance notice, trying to best match the schedules with the needs of the guests and often in conjunction with other external cleaning services, such as pool cleaning. THE PROPERTY The house is on two floors and is composed as follows: on the ground floor, a living room with a comfortable double sofa bed, an open-plan kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and bidet, and a stairwell. While upstairs there is a bathroom with a shower and a double bedroom with a single bed and direct access to the outdoor garden. The cottage in the Banditelle has been recently renovated (2023), but we decided to leave the authenticity of this Maremma country cottage intact, with the original stone walls, terracotta flooring and exposed beams on the ceiling and it is almost completely furnished with antique furniture. We have taken care of every detail and, where possible, handcrafted the furniture, both inside and outside, thanks to the skilled hands of father Rocco, with the help of the whole family. The land extends for a hectare and a half and in addition to hosting the olive grove and a few rows of newly planted vines, it offers the possibility of relaxing and enjoying the large outdoor spaces. Adjacent to the main entrance, on the west side of the house and in front of the hill where Civitella Marittima rises, there is a pergola, which shades a small wrought iron and travertine table, perfect for summer breakfasts. Walking along the porphyry pavement towards the south side of the house, you will find a large wooden table under the shade of a large gazebo and a rocking chair, which offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy the wind that shakes the leaves of the olive tree next to it or a beautiful sunset over the Tuscan hills. A large brick barbecue with an adjacent countertop is available. Nestled among the olive trees is the swimming pool for the exclusive use of the guests of the house. It is private and not shared with anyone else, perfect for cooling off on hot summer afternoons. The entire property is safe, completely fenced and offers parking with two parking spaces. Guest access The entire property is available for guests to walk and have a picnic in the olive grove and among the rows of the small vineyard. Other things to note CLEANING/MAINTENANCE SERVICES Weekly change of linens. Change of towels every three days. Pool cleaning performed every two/three days (generally in the morning, to be arranged with the guests' schedules). Extra cleaning of the house is performed, on request for a fee. When necessary, gardening work will be carried out, such as grass cutting, or treatments for olive trees and/or the vineyard, trying to organize us in the best way, so as not to disturb guests. SURROUNDINGS The house in the banditelle is located just 2 minutes away from the SS223 the state road, which connects Siena to Grosseto and allows you to reach the two cities in 40 and 30 minutes respectively. Nearby you can do various activities, such as trekking reported by CAI, horseback riding or a relaxing walk through the perched village of Civitella Marittima, admirable from the house itself. In the area there are various rental services for e-bikes, but you need to book in advance and the delivery of bicycles takes place directly at the property. We owners are available to book e-bikes for our guests, if they wish, in order to guarantee availability (ask well in advance). We are within the Montecucco denomination and for wine lovers, tastings are possible at various local producers upon reservation. There are several trattorias and restaurants, where you can try great typical Maremma cuisine. In addition, the property is just 10 minutes from the natural thermal baths of Petriolo. From La casina delle banditelle you can reach several towns in about 30 minutes: Montalcino and Val D'Orcia, Monte Amiata with its historic villages, the Maremma coast with various seaside resorts, such as Castiglion della Pescaia. In 40 minutes you can reach the Abbey of San Galgano and the church of Montesiepi with the sword in the rock. A little further from the property there are other places of interest such as Monte Argentario with coves from the crystal clear sea and picturesque harbours, the thermal baths of Saturnia, fascinating villages for their history and art such as Pitigliano, Sovana, Sorano and Massa Marittima, finally Scansano famous for the production of Morellino wine. For those who want to leave the car at home, buses are available in the direction of Siena, Florence and Grosseto. The stop is about 10 minutes on foot.
