It’s the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee or watch the sunset over the woods and water. The property is surrounded by nature and wildlife—keep an eye out for deer, rabbits, our resident hawk and owl, graceful herons, and countless songbirds. Whether you’re here for a peaceful couple’s retreat or family adventure, this home provides the ideal setting. Please note: this is a secluded area. Cell service may be limited depending on your carrier, but Starlink internet is provided for reliable texting, streaming, and online access. Also, one security camera is present on the post of the front porch. It continually monitors and records video only of the front porch and parking area. These cameras are to monitor compliance with our no party or large gathering policy. No cameras are present inside. Guest access Guests can use the entire home, lake, and acreage, except the owner's closet under the stairs. Other things to note This property is beautiful, but also set in the woods, and is a bit rugged, so please expect encounters with nature. The house is situated near the bottom of a ravine. The rock driveway is steep. Four-wheeled drive vehicles are not needed; however, keep your momentum as you go back up the drive to leave. Do not stop on the hillside. It is possible that in the winter, an excess of snow could affect driving conditions on the hill portion of the driveway. We do our best to keep the hill plowed; however, without 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, it is unlikely your car will make it up if the road is snow-covered. We will accept cancellations due to snow and ice only if you are concerned about your vehicle making it up the drive. The home is set high to overlook the lake; however, there are steep drop-offs at the back and side. Please be careful to keep children away from the edge of the ravine, as it is dangerous! This is a new build. We have done our best to grow grass, but there are a few bare spots we are still working to fill in. The home is situated in the woods in Illinois. This, unfortunately, can mean an occasional critter. Mosquitoes, horseflies, ticks, chiggers, and deer flies can be pesky. Bug spray is provided. Please use it if you are concerned about bugs, and check yourself for ticks. We do our best to keep the home bug-free, but an occasional one may find its way in. Please keep all doors to the outside shut. There is a Dynatrap (flying bug traps) near the back deck and citronella candles in the linen closet. There is also wasp spray in the shed if you see a wasp or carpenter bee. Inside the home are Zevo flying insect traps (please leave these plugged in) to catch those occasional moths and flies that sneak in as we enter or exit. Unfortunately, it is very common in Illinois in the country to have a large hatching of ladybugs in the fall after a warmup. We do our best to spray for them, but it is impossible to stop them completely. On the far right side of the lake is our dock. Attached is a Lillypad, which is a floating water mat. Please supervise children at all times in water and on the dock and Lillypad. The water is deep at the end of the dock, but do not dive off the sides, as it may be too shallow. The circle portion of the lake nearest the house is shallow and muddy, so we recommend swimming near the dock in the larger part of the lake. The area near the dock can be a little muddy as well, so use the dock ladder to climb out. Bike Trail Information: Kickapoo bike trails can be accessed from the property. From the house, walk down the small hill. Continue along the trail, following the bike trail signs. If you go through the gate to the bike trails, you are supposed to go right to begin the trail. This is a very long one-way trail. The trails can also be accessed from a small gravel parking lot on the south side of 2130 Road, not too far before our driveway. If you enter the bike trails here, go right onto the trails, and you can exit the trails onto our property, making for a shorter ride. You cannot see the gate from the bike trail, so it would be a good idea to check out the point where you would get off the trail onto our property ahead of time. Note: Illinois requires a fishing license to fish this lake, as we only own a portion of the lake.
