Description
Gopeyka (means beautiful in Lakota) Cabin is located on a mesa which overlooks the Galisteo River Basin and lies in the shadow of the Ortiz Mountains. Located just off the Turquoise Trail or Hwy 14 south of Santa Fe, it is minutes from the charming village of Cerrillos where the owner has a beautiful gift shop, fine art gallery & yoga studio. Nearby Madrid has bars and restaurants. The space This two story log home was originally located in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and belonged to a member of the Hoover family. Built in 1830 of local oak, hand hewn into logs, and later sided with clapboard and a wrap around porch, it stood in Ohio farm country until 2004, when it suffered fire damage to a lean to kitchen (a room added on to the outside of the log walls). It was condemned by the county and slated to be burned for practice by the local fire department. We rescued it, disassembled it and shipped it west, where it was reassembled, with new electric and plumbing. You will notice how solid and quiet it feels when you enter. Guest access 106 acres is available to explore on foot. Other things to note Feel free to visit with the animals. You may enter the barn - just stay a little distance from the largest black and while horse, Estrellita. The burro and Eagle- blue eyes- are the friendliest! You can pat their noses which are like velvet!
