Other things to note Since 1808, the town of El Bruc plays a legendary role in the wars against Napoleon for Spanish independence. The most famous myth is that of the "Timbaler del Bruc", a young man who touching the drum, with the echo of his rumbles due between the rocky moles and the walls of the mountain of Montserrat, made the French believe that they were facing an outsize army, far superior to their own, which caused their withdrawal and made it a symbol of popular resistance. El Bruc being right on the slope of Montserrat mountain, being one of the few gateways to the natural park and monastery. From here are beautiful hiking trails, given its privileged and spectacular natural environment, ideal for ecotourism, hiking, climbing and cycling (ebikes can be rented in the same village). It is divided into three parts: the Bruc d 'abaix, the middle and Dalt (1 km). It is an international reference of climbing, one of its most emblematic and recognized destinations in the world, given its unique rock formations: the conglomerate needles of Montserrat (compact stone with boulders) are very unique and offer paths with character; with diversity of styles: from technical plates, collapses, fissures, artificial, to large adventure walls; an ideal climate all year round, which has made many European professional climbers train or try tracks in Montserrat.
