The Penny, a Sun Drenched Country Retreat

The Six Bells is a country inn in the Hudson Valley, inspired by English and American countryside. Featured in Architectural Digest and honored as a 2025 Great Design Hotel Winner, it’s a storybook you can sleep in—a historic three-story with eleven guest rooms, tavern, riverside restaurant, and shop. The Penny offers a king bed, hand-painted wardrobe, and writing desk, plus a seating nook with wingback chair and antique-inspired lamps. This second-floor room also includes a separate seating nook, with a lushly upholstered wingback chair and antique-inspired lamps. The Penny is inspired by the Barrow’s Green Antiquarian Appreciation Society, which stages small collections of curios and artifacts. Some of the Society’s prized objects are donated by patrons like Cecil Plunkett and Lady Ashborne, while others are personal but precious treasures collected by various villagers on their holidays. We offer all our guests a complimentary breakfast spread daily in the first-floor dining room. Coffee and tea are available all day at no cost and there is a full bar and restaurant on the property. We offer daily housekeeping, if you wish, at no cost.
