The Snuggle

A beautiful hand crafted shepherds hut with a 20 mile view over rolling hills, to Dartmoor national park. The hut is on our 42 acre land. Step out of the door into glorious meadows and oak woodland which you are free to explore. Lovely beaches nearby. The Snuggle has a king-size bed, wood burner, indoor kitchen with seating area and a comfy couch. Directly behind the hut is your own indoor off grid shower and compost loo. Solar electricity is supplied with usb and 240v ports. Sleeps 2. The space A good night’s sleep is an important part of your stay, so the bed has a 30cm thick mattress topped with memory foam. The bedding is 100% cotton with hypoallergenic pillows and duvet. There are individual reading lights above the bed. The kitchen is supplied with complementary ground coffee, tea, rooibos, hot chocolate and a selection of herbal teas plus oat milk and uht milk sachets. We also provide cooking oil, salt and pepper. Cooking utensils include a large Engel cool box (best to add ice), mugs, cafetière, tea pot, cutlery, kitchen knives, plates, bowls and a range of pans. We give you full containers of drinking water, hand pumped from our borehole. The water passes through a Newton ceramic filter in the hut so it is absolutely pure (and of course, chlorine free). Rainwater is harvested from the roof of the hut. The shower/toilet house and the hut both have sinks with taps operated by foot pumps, so the rainwater can be easily accessed for washing and washing up. We provide eco-friendly shampoo, body wash and conditioner for the shower plus eco washing up products for the kitchen so waste water can be safely harvested in our off grid grey water system. Please only use the products provided. Full size bathroom towels are provided for showering. In front of the hut is a picnic table and a fire bowl which doubles as a barbecue for al fresco dining. A stack of wood for the burner and fire bowl are provided and further wood can be bought for £15 per wheelbarrow. Firelighters are also provided. Power is supplied from a portable Jackery power box with 240v plug point and 2 x usb-A ports – we provide cables to attach these to usb micro and C devices plus iphones. The Jackery will happily run laptops and phones, but will not cope with appliances that require high power such as hairdryers, portable fridges and travel kettles, so please don’t try to use these items. If the Jackery runs out of power, we will happily replace it with a fully charged one on request and free of charge. There is a combination padlock which we will leave on the kitchen counter and which looks the doors to the hut from the outside, keeping your valuables safe. The combination is changed for each guest. You will be informed of the combination when you make your booking. Being away from any major cities, you will be able to see hundreds of stars on a clear night and a wealth of birds during the day, from tiny firecrests to majestic buzzards. In Spring our woodland is carpeted with bluebells. We recommend you bring wellies and ice for the cool box. Dartmoor national park is within 30 minutes drive and the historic towns of Totnes and Dartmouth are each 20 minutes drive. Blackpool sands beach is 15 min away. Guest access You have sole use of the Snuggle and the shower/toilet house. You are welcome to walk in our meadows or woods. Behind the shepherds hut is a large hedge, behind which are several dwelling places. Please do not venture on to this side of the hedge. Anywhere on the hut side of the hedge is free for you to explore Other things to note We have free off road vehicle parking approximately 100 yards from the hut. We will provide you with a wheelbarrow to move all your luggage from your vehicle to the hut. The Snuggle is situated in a large field. There is another shepherds hut in one corner and there are occasionally other campers in the field that are usually friends and family of our community members. You will always have plenty of space around you without anyone close by. You will have your own garden space and out door fire and picnic area exclusively for your own use. Sorry, no pets. Safety features include smoke alarm, CO2 alarm and fire extinguisher plus first aid kit.
