Forest of Orchids is our non-profit natural reserve where we are working to restore our damaged ecosystem, preserve endangered orchids, provide environmental education and eco-tourism. Wake up with the songs of many birds and go to bed watching the stars from within this cosy cabin! The cabin is located in a protected nature reserve and has an amazing view from the two single beds (which can be combined to a double bed). It also supports a sleeping couch and a bathroom with hot water. The elaborate breakfast consists of, when available, ingredients from local organical produce. There are plenty of vegetarian options. All the facilities on our one hectare terrain are eco-friendly. Which is reflected in the type of construction materials, the architecture and the use of a gray-water system for watering the gardens among other things. For example all the cleaning products, soaps and shampoos are biodegradable. We are located in a rural mountain area, at an altitude of 2670 meters and 1.5km from the main square of Tenjo. It is easily reached by foot or by bicycle via the Camellón (country road). Taxis and cars can reach 200m from the entrance of the Forest of Orchids. From our place you can enjoy hikes through the countryside, the mountains and nature reserve. Guest access COMMUNAL AREAS: An common area with fireplace, billiard, couches and rocking chairs. Furthermore a dining area, a reading corner and library with plenty of books on orchids and birds. Relax and enjoy good colombian coffee of herbal tea in the garden surrounded by hummingbirds. Go for a nice walk in our privately restored orchid forest and relax in the gardens full of special orchid spiecies. Explore the surrounding countryside and mountains by hiking through the natural reserve to the mythical Peña de Juaica! Transport to and from Forest of Orchids (please reserve in advance). Other things to note We are located in an andean dry forest, 2670m above sealevel. The terrain is unfortunately not suitable for people with walking difficulties. We have two Belgian Shepards. Please bring clothing and shoes appropiate for rural mountain areas. This includes a warmer (rain)jacket, sturdy shoes and a hat or cap against the sun. Sunblock and insect repellant is also advised. It is not allowed to take or leave flora or fauna!
