Description

Welcome to the Blue Shaboo! Follow along @TheBlueShaboo Built in the 1880s, this delightful cottage is one of the earliest buildings erected in our coastal Maine fishing village. Here you have everything necessary for leisurely island days with family or friends before heading out to explore gorgeous Midcoast Maine. The space Originally a general store, Nat House’s Store, for almost 90 years and then briefly an antique store, it was converted to a family home in the early 1980s and named the Blue Shaboo after Maine’s rare blue lobsters— “shaboo” = lobster. If you are itching to explore, you are centrally located for day trips • 2.5 hours from Acadia National Park • 1.5 hours from Portland • 1 hour from the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland or from the picturesque Camden • 30 minutes from Pemaquid lighthouse or from Granite Hall in Round Pond If you are looking to stay put and enjoy island life, the Blue Shaboo is ideal for a quiet getaway or writing retreat. You are surrounded by views of the water—the Damariscotta river out the front windows and the South Bristol Harbor from the back. An perfect day starts with watching the sunrise while drinking coffee on the back deck. Then you can put in your kayak just across the road at the public landing or walk one of the many gorgeous Coastal River trails nearby. Grab lunch at Harborside or Kneaded Provisions before spending a little time reading or watching boats. Mid-afternoon head out for ice cream. At the end of the day, you can enjoy hors d’oeuvres on the front porch while you enjoy the sunset and wait to pick up your lobsters from Osier’s or the Fisherman’s Co-op. The house has — two full bathrooms, one upstairs (tub) and one downstairs (shower) — Moccamaster coffee maker & bean grinder — 12 place settings of silverware & plates & serving dishes — sound machines in all bedrooms — Klipsch bluetooth speaker Because we value the option to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with loved ones, there is no tv; however, we do have cards, games, mahjongg, puzzles, as well as WiFi. We hope you'll find the Blue Shaboo to be a special retreat you'll never forget. Guest access Guests have access to the whole house. Other things to note This is a traditional Maine cottage. We do not have hvac; just open windows and doors for nature’s ac—wonderful water breezes moving through the house. We also have fans & screens in the closets of all the bedrooms. For cooler days and nights, there are down comforters & wool blankets. No pets or fire, please. Not only are we on an island, we are perched on the very edge of the rock ledge. So, as is common to the area, water in the house comes from a cistern. Water goes through a filtration system before coming out of the faucets. You can use the water to wash dishes, brush teeth, and bathe. We provide five gallon jugs of bottled water for drinking. Parking is available just across the street in the town parking lot.
