With Te Urewera, Whirinaki Te Pua A Tane Conservation Park, Kaingaroa Forest, Whirinaki River, Rangitaiki River, Horomanga River and Lake Aniwhenua all within 30min drive. Adventurer, Hiker, Camper, Hunter, Fisherman, Nature Lover or anybody needing a break away from the norms. Come stay, be it alone or with the kids. The space The Orange Roughie consists of 2 individual sleeping Cabins and a covered outdoor area including: Deck, Kitchenette, Gas cooking hob, Composting toilet and Outdoor Shower. It was built using recycled materials from a Historic Woolshed. Rogers/ Te Wairoa hut located in the Whirinaki forest was the inspiration behind the Orange flair. The Orange Roughie was built by your hosts Jacob, Brooke and thier two children. It was a labour of love, trying to provide a stepping stone between our normal day to day and the backcountry hut bushlife in NZ. We hope you will enjoy the Woolshed/ Bush hut Vibes. Please note: cooking facilities are solely based around the Gas cooktop. Whistling kettles for boiling water, pots, pans and a wok for cooking. No electric jug or microwave. An old upcycled pop top caravan is set up for the kids to run amuck, board games, balls n bats, arts n crafts stored in here - adults welcome to get arty too. Outdoors there is a firepit, woodfired brazier, large grass lawn for kicking a ball, table, basic tree house and swings. Cabin 1: sleeps 2, Queen bed. Cabin 2: sleeps 2, 2x single beds. Guest access The Cabins and space are located close to the properties main dwelling where your hosts Brooke, Jacob and their 2 children Noah and Jade live. The Cabins and overall space have been set out to give everyone privacy. There are fences between the 2 spaces. The driveway is shared with 2 designated parking spaces on the gravel close to the cabins for you to use. Other things to note The Orange Roughie has been set up with minimalistic and eco friendly vibes. Using recycled materials and basic amenities that create a unique experience without sacrificing a warm cosy cabin to sleep in. As hosts we are hopeful you will take a small step back in time and gain an appreciation for the bush hut and shearers quarters life of old. The entertaining-deck area is semi exposed to the elements so bring warm clothes to suit during the colder months for morning and evening drinks/ dinning. Spiders and birds such as the friendly piwakawaka (fantails) and cheeky weka (bush hens) will be present along with thier cobwebs and droppings. Whirinaki Road is to the West of the cabins and road noise can be heard during the busier periods of the day. If you have headed out from town or the city then we are sure you will find it extremely peaceful compared to your norm. The views of our local Maunga (bush mountain) Tawhiau to the East are beautiful. If you have stayed with us previously - please note we have changed the Bunk room. There is now only 2x single beds as opposed to the 2x Bunk beds that we used to offer. As this is a newly established business for us and our first time being hosts, we welcome all feedback and are keen to hear what you enjoyed and what needs improvement. Thanks heaps Jacob and Brooke.
