Description
Wattlegate Cottage is a charming converted carthouse on a traditional working farm in the heart of the South Downs National Park. A peaceful retreat for couples, walkers, and cyclists, it offers modern comforts and an enclosed private garden, perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the South Downs or cycling the Downs Link Path. Just off the A27, the cottage is ideally placed for visiting Brighton, Lewes, Arundel, Steyning, and the many picturesque villages nearby. The space Our charming one-bedroom cottage features a comfortable king-size bed and en-suite bathroom, along with a bright open-plan kitchen, dining and living area overlooking our pretty cottage garden. Start your morning slowly with a cup of coffee as the sun rises, birdsong fills the air and goldfinches flit to and from the feeder just outside the window. It’s a peaceful little corner of the farm and the perfect way to begin your day. Guest access Guests have their own private parking area and a key safe for easy, hassle-free check-in. The cottage also has a fully enclosed private garden with a patio and outdoor seating — perfect for enjoying a leisurely al fresco breakfast in the sunshine or relaxing with a drink in the evening. Other things to note We are a mixed working farm with cows, sheep and arable crops such as wheat and barley. You're warmly invited to take a tour of the farm. Hugh, the farmer, loves sharing the story of the land and its animals. Wildlife is abundant here, with regular sightings of hares, buzzards, red kites, skylarks and corn buntings. We are also home to a range of small local businesses in our converted barns including 'SWAG antiques', 'Caley Bros' who grow artisan mushrooms, 'Mason Cycles' who design and build bespoke bicycles, a carpenter, the creative 'Lantern House' and Fynn, The Adur Beekeeper, who has Bee hives on the farm and you can purchase his excellent honey from our onsite stall. Well behaved dogs are welcome, but we kindly ask that they stay off the furniture and bed, and are not left unattended in the cottage. There are plenty of walks and cycle routes right from your doorstep - feel free to ask us for recommendations. We hope you'll enjoy a restful and cosy stay surrounded by nature and the quiet charm of the South Downs 😊
