Description
Set in an elevated position with Loch and Mountain views, Doune Cottage is as stunning as peaceful. Made exclusively from timber, we lovingly built this Scandi-inspired longhouse ourselves: comfortable and spacious, for families and groups alike. With beautiful local walks and 20 minutes from Loch Lomond and an hour from Glen Coe and Glasgow, the location is perfect for all kinds of holidays. Five minutes down the hill, Garelochhead village lies on the famous, scenic West Highland Train Line. The space The house has three bedrooms over two floors; one master with en-suite, one double with en-suite and one double bunk room, ideal for children (although the beds are full size and fine for adults.) There are three bathrooms including the two en-suites and one other, main bathroom. There is a large open plan kitchen/dining space and at the far end there is the sunken living area. This space moves from low wooden ceiling in the kitchen to huge double height space over the dining and living areas. It’s truly a wonderful space to be in, somehow spacious and snug at the same time. The living area opens out on the beautiful reclaimed brick patio with spectacular views of the Gare Loch and surrounding mountains. Upstairs there is a spacious mezzanine for extra space to hang out (literally) on a hammock or enjoy a bit of yoga. There is also a cosy cinema room; all you need to do is plug in your laptop (cables provided) and hit play. A real treat for movie lovers. Garden & Dogs Although it’s generally enclosed there are some gaps that could be squeezed through if the doggy is so inclined. Guest access The plant room and the cabin are not for guest access but you're not missing much - there's just the boiler, the consumer unit and a few building supplies... Other things to note Madelaine and Will built this house by themselves (with the help of their little ones Oscar and Flo) including all the finishes, walls, floors etc. A real labour of love. We are sure you'll love the house and its natural charm but it's worth pointing out this is a family home, not a luxury AirBnb business. They want you to enjoy the house while they are away – feel free to read the books! The garden is still being landscaped so while it’s great to wander about in and enjoy, it's missing a few refinements here and there. We think the patio (built over two years by M &W) will more than make up for it!
