The space Welcome to Fairview Cottage Your cosy Devon retreat, full of warmth, charm, and a little bit of “Hygge” Our Story & What “Hygge” Means We’re Joanne and Daniel High, and we fell in love with Devon more than 10 years ago. After relocating from the South East, we made this beautiful area our home and wanted to create a special getaway for others to enjoy it too. Fairview Cottage is the result - a peaceful escape filled with comfort, warmth, and inspiration from the Danish idea of Hygge (pronounced “hue-guh”). Though there’s no direct English translation, Hygge is all about that cosy, content feeling you get when everything just feels right, like curling up with a book, enjoying a home-cooked meal, or watching the sunset with someone you love. We’ve renovated and furnished the cottage with that feeling in mind - soft lighting, comfy furniture, thoughtful details, and everything you need to relax and recharge. About Fairview Cottage Fairview Cottage is a recently renovated, one-bedroom traditional cottage, perfect for couples (and their dog!) looking for a tranquil Devon hideaway. Whether you're staying for a weekend or a longer break, the space is designed to feel like home. Throughout the cottage, you’ll find hand-picked artwork, personal touches, and a few quirky curios that make the space feel special. As keen home cooks, we've made sure the kitchen is well-equipped - whether you’re rustling up a full Sunday roast, a quick breakfast, or fancy heading out to The Olde Plough Inn (just down the road - a 16th-century, family-run pub), you’ll have all the options. What to Expect – A Walk Through the Cottage Outside: As you arrive, there are two small steps up to the front door. To your right, a charming courtyard garden awaits, with a bistro table and chairs. It's a lovely sun-trap, perfect for a morning coffee or evening drink, with a partial view down to the river. Inside: You step into a small porch with exposed oak beams - a cosy welcome. There’s space to leave boots and a handy shelf for essentials. From there, you enter the open-plan kitchen and lounge area. The kitchen has two separate worktops and is fully stocked with utensils, pots, pans, and more. The dining table for two sits by the window. There’s a comfy sofa and a Smart HD TV (note: live TV isn’t available, but you can log into your own Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.). Upstairs: A large king-size bed awaits, with soft bedding and a wardrobe for your things. The bathroom includes a spacious shower, a large basin with drawers, and a toilet. Essentials provided: Towels, bed linen, kitchen basics (tea, coffee, sugar, etc.). Guest access During your booking, you will have full uninterrupted access to the property.
