Description

Built in 2021 our custom-designed modern guest cabin affords breathtaking ocean views. Sea Salt & Cedar cabin is a perfect space for up to 2 adults. The 200 sq foot cabin also includes an attached covered deck as well as a waterfront deck, extending your living space to the outdoors. Nestled in the cedars 50 feet above the beach the waterfront deck is the perfect place to enjoy stunning ocean views and evening sunsets. The space The gourmet kitchen is fully outfitted with all your home-away-from-home needs. It has a 2-burner propane stovetop (no oven), an under-the-counter small fridge/freezer, as well as an additional small fridge on the covered deck and a BBQ. The kitchen is well-equipped with cookware, dishes, cooking utensils, toaster, soda stream, coffee grinder, french press coffee maker and a selection of herbs/spices, olive oil and vinegar. The water from all taps is potable. A private outdoor shower can be accessed from the bathroom inside the cabin or from the outside deck and is the perfect ending to your beach day showering under the wonders of nature. The fold-out Ikea double bed with a firm mattress is comfortable. We provide bed linens, pillows, duvet and towels. We also supply beach towels, beach chairs and sun umbrellas. Because of the cozy size of the cabin it is not suitable for pets, infants or children. This self-contained cabin is in a quiet location, however it is positioned with neighbours on either side as well as a public walking path a short distance from the front of the cabin. 200ft from the cabin is a short trail down to Mermaid beach. This is a popular spot for beach day fun, whether you’re relaxing, walking, swimming or paddling. Mermaid beach is a favourite local spot for evening swims with spectacular sunsets. Hiking trails are nearby to explore the diverse ecosystem that makes Savary Island so special. We are entirely 100% off grid, which means we use a combination of systems as gently as possible. We use solar, generator, battery-bank, well and septic systems to operate the property efficiently and sustainably with the least environmental impact. The cabin can be heated on cold, damp days. There is also optional wifi available. Guest access We are located mid-island on the north side of Savary, roughly a 20-minute trip by land taxi from the government wharf. The cabin is on a beautiful secondary road used mainly by walkers, joggers and cyclists. The only way to get around the island is to walk, unless you bring your own bicycles, or rent bikes, ebikes or scooters from the east side of the island roughly 3.5km away. Other things to note Important to know about Savary Island supplies You need to come completely prepared as there are no modern conveniences on the island. A small general store operates daily in the summer where you can find limited supplies and is 3.5km away. There are sometimes markets or pop up food vendors around the island, and these vary from year to year. Garbage and Recycling There is no garbage and recycling service on the island, even for residents. Guests MUST take their garbage and recycling with them on departure. Thank you for your understanding. Packing To expedite the ease on and off the water taxi, pack your food and belongings into cooler(s) and carry size plastic tubs as much as possible. Not only does this keep your belongings safe when stacked on the boat, but dry as well. Please note that you will need to take your garbage and recycling off-island with you when you leave. Neighbourhood highlights We live in a small community of cabins with neighbours. As your cabin is at the front of our property, you will have full sweeping views of Desolation Sound Marine Park, Hernando and Cortez islands. It is also centrally located for discovering other areas of the island in either direction. Popular destinations on the island include: Mermaid Beach ~ 3 min walk Sutherland Beach ~ 20 min walk Meadows Beach ~ 25 min walk Nature Conservancy Trust Lands - for hiking trails - 20 min walk Mermaid Lounge ~ 3 min walk (offering pizza and beverages, as well as live music on some evenings) The Sugar Shack ~ 20 min walk Note: Actual times may vary depending on how long your legs are ;) Getting to Savary How to get to Lund, where you catch the foot passenger water taxi to Savary: By ferry from Vancouver Take the Langdale ferry from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) to Langdale, on the Sunshine coast. From there you drive north to Earls Cove where you take the second ferry to Saltery Bay. You continue driving north through Powell River and on to Lund. We highly recommend booking your early Langdale/Horseshoe Bay ferry well ahead to assure boarding. Although the trip will take the better part of your day, it is filled with beautiful ocean and forest views along the way. By ferry from Comox Take the ferry from Comox to Powell River. Drive from Powell River north to Lund. By plane or Seaplane Van City Seaplanes is available for charter and can drop you off near the government wharf on Savary. You will get your feet wet disembarking, and by contacting Lund Water taxi ahead, you can arrange a land taxi to the cabin. Harbour Air flies direct from Vancouver to Powell Lake. From there you can arrange a taxi to Lund (40 minutes), then your own prearranged water taxi and land taxi booked via Lund Water Taxi. Pacific Coastal Airlines flies to Powell River airport, where you can also arrange a taxi to Lund, then your own prearranged water taxi and land taxi booked via Lund Water Taxi. Getting to Savary Island from Lund You must book your water taxi and land taxi ahead and directly with Lund Water Taxi. They are very busy in the summer, therefore you will need to reserve ahead. Generally water taxis leave Lund on the hour and return from Savary on the half hour. If driving, you will need to book your parking with Lund Parking ahead as well.
