Why is the sand pink? The characteristic color of the sand is due to the high concentration of the garnet mineral in the surrounding rocks. The natural wear of these rocks by the action of the sea releases the reddish pigmentation, which mixes with the other components of the sand, resulting in the pink or sometimes reddish tone. Features of Praia do Forno Sand: The sand is relatively coarse and, in the right corner of the beach, where Forninho Beach is located (a micro beach accessible at low tide), the pink tone is even more intense.
