What is currently the living room was orignially a bar with billiards. The space was then transitioned into a newsprint office. Since that time the first floor space was occupied with a variety of retail and commercial businesses, including "Silver Slugs" fire arms clubhouse, The Woman's Club of Ouray meeting room, Ouray Glass Works, a frame shop, Ouray Yoga and Mojo's Coffee. The original owner and proprietor, Jesse Benton, served in the Civil War with Company First Colorado Calvary, 1862. After the war he became a private lawman hired by mountain mining towns to establish law and order. Benton organized the Ouray "Sharp Shooter's" and survived three decades of law enforcement in the San Juans. ****All stays over 30 days will require a mid-stay clean. Longer stays will require cleans every 30 days. This will be an additional guest expense.
