The space Smythe House was built in 1890 as a shingle style Victorian, a kit home made and sold for only about 39 years it was the anthisis to the gaudy Elizabethan Victorian. The shingle style was build at the time of the Hudson River Valley painting rennaisance led by Thomas Cole and intended to celebrate the beauty of nature. At Smythe House you will find that we embrace nature and welcome wildlife from the nature preserve we border by cultivating wild spaces on our property. we have three nature preserves in Saugerties close to our home, for great walking trails, and you can simply open our door and venture into the front or back yards for immediate nature relaxation therapy. Guest access we have a large frontyard and bigger backyard, you can get close to nature just outside our home, we encourage deer and rabbits and birds and bees by growing as many wild flowers and supportive plants as we can, and so you will immediately feel the benefits of nature as soon as you check in to Smythe House. Your room is fully air-conditioned and with modern amenities, but you can also sit in the nature filled backyard to listen to the birds singing and watch butterflies harvesting nectar. inside the home is the "mud" room with many plants as you enter, then the foyer with brochures of all the nature preserves and exciting activities in our area (eg. river is closeby and boats of all types easy to rent) also in the foyer is our golden Buddha who will grace you with good luck, and a kuerg machine and tea station for your enjoyment, then the stairs that lead to the second and third floors of the home with five well appointed guest rooms, each with private bathroom.
