A Rustic Gem
This 1880's summer cottage is the perfect romantic getaway, writer's retreat or just a nice break from the noise of everyday life. This original studio of Keene Valley artist is located on a secluded cliff with beautiful views of Giant Mountain and its surroundings. The best feature is a huge covered porch (not screened) that functions as an outdoor dining room with a view. A nearby one-room cabin with a screened porch (perfect for sleeping in the summer) is available for $400 per week. The cottage has one bedroom with a double bed; a kitchen equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster; one bathroom with a shower/bath; and an indoor living/dining room with a stone fireplace, comfortable furniture, and a futon that sleeps two people. The whole cottage and surrounding acre or so. Members of my family and I may be staying at the nearby camp (on the circular part of the driveway on the way to the cottage) during your stay. We provide the phone number there, and you are welcome to stop by to introduce yourself or with questions. We try to provide everything you need to be self-sufficient during your stay, but we are available if necessary. The summer cottage is about 800 yards from the nearest structure, a classic Adirondack camp that shares its driveway but is not within sight of the cottage. Even so, it is only a short walk to the village of Keene Valley, which is located in the heart of the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains. The Garden, one of the largest and most popular trailheads in the Adirondacks, is a 25-minute walk from the cottage along the same road. Trails from the Garden lead to Johns Brook Lodge and up the Johns Brook Valley to the Great Range and Mount Marcy. Many other trailheads are close by. Rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, swimming, golf, and fishing are also available in the area. Lake Placid, with its Olympic athletic facilities, competitions, restaurants, shopping, lake access, historic sites, and world-class horse shows, is a 25-minute drive. The only public transportation to Keene Valley is Adirondack Trailways (bus), which stops on the main road through town once a day.
